Automatic Checkout/ Auto Pay

I’ve been using EBay for years, and have never experienced Auto Pay / Checkout until today. Essentially, it doubled my shipping charges as the seller had not yet sent a combined shipping invoice. How can this ‘feature’ / annoyance be turned off?
