bought an item as a gift in january. opened it in may. sent the wrong item. can't contact seller

purchased an item in january for a may birthday gift. came bubble wrapped and never thought to open it. when i did at the party the item was not what i ordered. i am past the window to refund and contact the still active seller. ebay is zero help.
