I've searched as far as I can and can't find information about this sake cup. Wrapped in wicker? When? Why? Age? all unknown. TIA

Almost 11" tall , about 9" diameter, 5" diameter at the opening. Wooden, almost black with concentric rings carved into it. Possibly broken and fixed. Anyone? It looks African, but I really have no clue. Thanks for any info!

The box has great wide dovetails with copper strapping in spots. It base is about 13" square and the top is 9.75" square. Two handles of wood, not sure if its grain painted or just great grain on the wood. Thanks for any info you may be able to share...
