Not only can private message boards censor the messages, they can also control who is allowed to post and who isn't. They have no obligation to let everyone in just as the Masons or the local tennis club have no obligation to let everyone in.

Yes it is.
It is the same sort of censorship that allows parents to tell their guests in their home to refrain from swearing in front of their children.
Unlucky

While I'm not one to side with the evil entity that is ebay, censorship on a private message board doesn't really exist.
The first amendment only applies to the gov't. It's the state that isn't supposed to censor free speech, the press, freeedom of religion, etc.
It's a chickenpoop rule they have, and they enforce it willynilly. Also the word you're looking for is "verboten", German basically for forbidden.

"the evil entity that is ebay"
????
That's a bit over the top, don't you think?

I actually think ebay gives us usually a lot of leeway here, most, but not all, of the time. I hope that doesn't ever change, especially on the fun threads. Other sites are far more restrictive.

Think about it.
Don't you want to maintain the ability to kick someone out of your house who is being really, really annoying and :"excercising their first amendment rights" inside your house?
