I hope this is ok to start......We do this on a few other places and it is fun......... I will start with 1909 Copper one cent US with pic on front of man w/ head dress and back with floral like wreath 3/4 around and shield at top... ..I am a novice collector with lots of coins and am just getting started after all the years in storage......... Thanks everyone.....

It is a U.S. Indian head penny. They were minted from 1857-1909 I believe.

Not really, unfortunately. I'm guessing yours is in average circulated condition which runs $1 or so. If a better grade then it would be higher. You can always eBay it and see what it brings 🙂

Before you put it up for grabs on eBay check the bottom of the back under the wreath. If you see a small letter "S" the coin is worth quite a bit more, maybe even hundreds of dollars.

Hi guys, I know nothing about coins. I basically just know how to spend them :-). Anyway, I was going through some change and I came across two pennies that are "silver" colored. I'm not saying they are silver, just silver colored. At first I thought they were dimes until I noticed that they were pennies. The years of these pennies are 1976 and 1982. Does anyone know anything about these? I haven't got a clue. Thanks, Tim (timmc67)

Hi Tim, Your cents are most likely plated in some way. This would have been done by an individual after the coins had been released from the Mint. I'm sure if you scratch through the surface, you will see the bronze underneath. Jody

Tim I agree with Jody. I think your coins have been plated in some way, hopefully not with mercury. Eric
