Found this last week, it's missing a propeller but it fascinates me.
Any ideas on age, (WW2??) and how would I describe this were I to list it?
Did people make things like this a lot, or is this unusual?

If you do a Google search of "toy airplane made of spark plugs" you will see similar items. Modern creations. I don't think it was common to make a toy like this during WWII. My grandmother told me scrap metal of any kind was collected (even by children) and turned in for the war effort.

That's neat.
I would start with the spark plug and see if you can find out when it was made.

I know a bit about spark plugs. If the word "Modelo" is printed on the spark plug used to make that airplane, it means the spark plug was made in Mexico, perhaps by Motorcraft. That would preclude the spark plug from having been made circa WWII. There is not, nor has their ever been, to my knowledge, a spark plug manufacturer called Modelo. That word means "model" in Spanish. I will most certainly stand corrected.

that is a motorcraft spark plug. it is not really that old of one.
I know a guy that owns a hardware store and buys these type of items at flea markets and has them on display inside the store. they are usually made from leftover nuts, bolts, washers, nails or anything else laying around.

When I was very young ( now I am very old) I remember removing paper labels from cans and stomping on them to flatten them. Grandma said it was for the war effort. Thanks for a happy memory.
