Here is it's possible demise.. PSS FLORENCE was a 90 ton 101 foot wooden stern wheel paddle steamer that was lost at her winter quarters on Saint Michael Island Sunday October 10th, 1909 at 10 p.m. She foundered in gale/storm. The word is "Florence", although the top of the "F" is somewhat displaced.
