Choosing a listing category

1)  I have groups of postmarks and cancellations sorted by date, e.g. 50 items dated October 17, from the 19th century to the mid 1970's.  I don't really know whether buyers for such an item exist, but if they do, in what category should I list them.  Postmarks are mostly U.S. with some Canada.  Cancellations are worldwide.

2)  Same question of listing category for a group from the Michigan towns all on the same day in 1909.

If this is the wrong place to ask such a question, please suggest a better place.

Thanks,

Alan

Nope, this is likely to be a good place for the question. Not that I have an answer for you... 🙂 Are you talking about full covers or only the cancel and stamp cut from the cover? If the former you would be better off likely to group them by location rather than date. There are a few collectors that collect, for instance, their birth date, but not many.

Thanks, Bill.  These are basically cuts from envelopes or cancelled stamps.  I might work in some full covers and postal cards later.  I think if they were full covers they would fall into worldwide/postal history.

I understand that location collectors are much more common that date collectors, but these items are already currently sorted by date for my own purposes.  Furthermore, if there are any birthday collectors, they would rarely have an opportunity to pick up such a large quantity without an incredible investment in search time.

I might test the attractiveness of such a lot if I only could determine where to post them ...
