Sealed envelope and no markings on the back.
Did it actually go through the mailing system like this?
OR
Just a Favor Cancel that was forwarded in another envelope?

As far as your question goes, I have no idea.
But reminds me of our First Day Events in this country. You can get your covers stamped First Day without it actually going thru the normal post office process mail system. So does it really matters in the end? I think not.

If I recall correctly, for general cover collectors postally used is more desireable than Favor Cancels.

It seems to me that if someone just wanted a souvenir cancel, why bother to add such a complex address to the envelope? That's an actual NYC address, so I'm guessing it went through the mail.
