Just wanted to share a tale of woe. Background: I have been buying and selling on eBay for years and have a solid reputation. What happened: I recently sold my son's trumpet for $245 and shipped it the next day via USPS Priority Mail. Two days later the package tracking said it had been returned to my shipping location. When I checked with the local post office they said it wasn't on-premise. After weeks of trying to locate the package and eBay refunding the buyer 100%, I filed a claim with the USPS. They sent me a check for $50, which they said was the limit of my insurance. eBay was unwilling to compensate me for even a cent or possible credit on future transactions. I found this pretty abhorrent as I have been a good customer for years. So I was out a trumpet and no recourse. The moral? Check the insurance before you ship.
