PROVISO: .....most of the autographed stuff on EBay is worth about two Mardi Gras Doubloons......lot of fakes...careful.....case in point....notice how many GENUINE PAVAROTTI SIGNATURES flooded EBAy following his untimely demise....I would be very skeptical....... aa

.....oh that is a different story....I would expect that Luke Honey would only offer genuine items....I would feel much more comfortable buying items there......even the best can be fooled howeverf so I would still do some research myself...... aa

I've tried to acquire autographed items that can be proven legitimate, such as this board from the 1939 Olympics http://www.crumiller.com/chess/chess_pages/boards/ChessBoardWithAutographs1939.htm and also this autographed board from a longtime chess enthusiast in Buenos Aires. http://www.crumiller.com/chess/chess_pages/boards/AutographedChessBoard.htm It's always hard to tell with autographs in books. I do have one magazine that was owned by the young Bobby Fischer - with his hand-scrawled analysis on it. http://www.crumiller.com/chess/chess_pages/books/FischerHandwritingMagazine.htm The rarest autograph I have is Stamma's! http://www.crumiller.com/chess/chess_pages/books/StammaEchecs1737.htm -- Edited by computojon at 04/19/2008 10:11 AM PDT

autographed chess books

Hello again, and once again, Happy New Year to all! The new (12/28/09) thread, "New Chess on Stamp Website", located on this old ebay chess collectors group, was just started by longtime ebay group member (2007) Jedwards. It is great to see some diversification of the chess set mindset apparently and understandably prevalent in this old ebay discussion group! I too love chess sets, but as my (yes, perhaps self-promoting once again) 😞 😉 article [Bored (board) of Chess Sets?) in a past CCI publication supported, diversification can help keep things a'pumpin'... I'd like to revive this particular "autographed chess books" thread because I noticed that an ebay item 330388063758 "Chess - Karpov on Karpov Signed Easton Press 1991" sold for $306.50..... back, a few days ago, on 12/27/09. I guess that market values go up and down, eh? FYI, there is another (perhaps less desirable to some folks, due to the new blank Easton Press bookplate - over an apparently removed earlier one) "Karpov on Karpov Signed 1st Easton Press No Reserve" (ebay item # 260528465148) up for bid. As of a few hours ago, the highest bid was still below $200. I suspect that it will go for under $300, but who knows? THE BIDDING ENDS IN A MERE FEW HOURS...! There are some ebay sellers who still have the same book (perhaps in pristine condition, but still the same book) up for BIN and/or normal bidding processes for nearly $1,000. I guess the saying, "whatever the market will bear" kinda holds true for autographed books as it seems to hold for chess sets? I am bringing this to your attention because it is possible that some of you might be interested in this autographed book. Granted, it is not old. But the numbers of this high end quality published and signed book are relatively small. It is of course a book written and signed by Karpov himself... and he "ain't" getting any younger... Good luck to all potential bidders. I have no stake in the selling of this item. But I hope that this sharing is either helpful / interesting to at least some viewers and/or potential collectors/bidders! John, Vermont. PS: I will not be bidding. I have one of these already.

All: Of course, not an autographed book, but rather than start another thread, I thought I'd place this ebay item here. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350444662732&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Bidding is beginning to get right up there, but I don't think it is unreasonable at the current (slightly over) $100 bid. Assuming that the signatures are genuine (and why wouldn't they be, as the seller is "one of our own" here)! 🙂 Among the more "collectible" / more difficult to find (in my novice opinion) are Tal's and Petrosian's. They both appear on this postcard. Anyone here with any thoughts on this item? On the other hand, maybe I myself should leave that level of expertise to our friend (Mr. Lawrence Totaro) who had a responsive article in a CCI newsletter a couple/few years ago, eh?) 😉 John, VT. PS: Upon looking at some of the earlier postings on this thread.... Ahhhhh..... the good old days, when even Jon of Computojon was a contributing member! I miss him! -- Edited by knight_knight_zzz at 03/10/2011 2:50 PM PST

Another (very) interesting chess related autographed item. Again, not a book, but rather, a letter with envelope. Who is it? Who is it? Well, go take a look! Price seems to be right up there (and there is a reserve!) A tad too pricey for me. You will not be seeing a knightly bid on that one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190519937172&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123 John.
