Photo Albums in Picasa - links

Alan Dewey began the new scheme of links to photo albums in Picasa. I have started this thread to have all the links in one place. Please use this thread for listing each topic and its link. No other comments please. I am also posting Photo Albums in our group with just one cover photo and a link to Picasa. Alan F

Hi, All, I have just posted the photo's I took in London this morning. On my picasa photo site http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/chessspy/2007_0609London Should get it (cause I cut and pasted it (Jon), good eh?) They start in Portobello Road, and then I went to Antiquarious on The Kings Road, Then on to Elizabeth Street. I tried to snap all the sets I saw just as they were in the cabinets, and then I snapped a card with the dealers details on. Now some didn't have any and on some I'll add in contact details as I get time later, so please don't contact anyone until I have made it clear what sets belong to which dealer will try to get it done this evening. Garrick Coleman's shop has so many good sets I just snapped two or three, and you should go to his web site for a look at all his sets. For the other dealers I pretty well snapped all they had. Regards Alan D.

Wow these are a lot of great photos. I'm sure Alan D's postings will increase business for the dealers and more dealers going the route of online sales is good for all of us of course. Alan F is done all of the Jaques fans a tremendous service! It's amazing how quickly this sort of thing can be accomplished using the internet. If I ever take the plunge and am able to/decide to invest in a Jaques Staunton set I'm certainly much better prepared now than I was last week! Robert... wow that's a lot of pictures. There's one set in the group I'm very fond of that I haven't seen before, the one right after the ceramic 'logo' set: http://picasaweb.google.nl/thechesscollectors/TheChessCollectorsAlbum1/photo#5073795180673758690 , http://picasaweb.google.nl/thechesscollectors/TheChessCollectorsAlbum1/photo#5073795189263693298 . Do you have information about this set? Are most of these pics from eBay auctions and member's collections? Ty

Hi, Ty, You will never know how backwards at coming forward some of these dealers are in Portobello and Kings Road, (apart from G.C. obviously) Their sites, when they've even got one are down, they "borrow" other peoples e-mails, and God knows when they access their answerphones (even when thy've got one. I am thinking of "going live" with this, By this I mean to upload pics from a wifi site ard see if I get any emails to check up on any sets. I don't know if I will have the time yet so I'll have to see. Alan D.

To All, I have taken photos of my Staunton pattern sets for group members to view and I've taken the trouble to estimate their age. Any group member who wishes to offer advice on possible errors I would sure appreciate it. Clearly there are a number of lesser sets but I do think the pictures of them might interest starter collectors not least because some were described as "antique":- http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/chesspurr

Chesspurr Hi Guy Nice photos. I love the toffee patina set, among others. Nice laundry in the background, too.

computojon hi jon yes my clothing was an oversight , but taking those photos was so darned time consuming ,i was damned it i was going to repeat the exercise in my counrty estate ;) i hope to in time offer my selection of ivory & bone sets , in the staunton pattern too, plus dublin , uprights , regence. i hope by doing this it will encourage less wealthy group members to do the same in the near future. if this idea is taken up ,then we can build one heck of a data base.

Hi, Guy, Yes, I've made a link from my site to yours, good going. Also I don't think all your clothes are a (over)sight, I thought you looked good in a suit, and I suppose like most Glaswegians it only gets an outing when you are "The Accused". ;-) However we do have a few good lawyers in the group now so that's encouraging.:-) Regards Alan D.

Hi, All, I just updated the Portobello album from last week. I put in a few new sets and noted the sets which had sold. Also a few pics to show some people enjoying the "Portobello Road" experience. My plan to photograph the antiquarian games pieces in Alfies on Davis Street came unstuck when I discovered it is only open during the week.(Perhaps I should have known this!) Well, I'm off to Paris on Thursday (God willing) so I might get some material there for a new album. Regards Alan D.

To All I have just updated in a separate album my varied Staunton and style collection of ivory, bone and a horn set for all to see. As previous, please feel free to offer opinions on my dating and origin of sets as it would be most appreciated http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/chesspurr

There have been some comments recently with regard to the chess collectors database. The picasa site albums are not trying to supercede this in any way. I see all these separate postings of sets as parts of the same whole. One huge database, with each section run by the person who posted the pictures. Picasa has certain advantages that other sites do not. (1) It's free and "effectively" unlimited storage space. (2) It has already installed the tools necessary to manipulate pictures, (magnify, download, rotate, crop, etc.) (3) The sites can be part public and part private.(for sets you wish to show to certain people but not for general viewing. (4) All the picassa sites can be linked together, and you are informed if there is any upload activity on any linked site. (5) A collector who already has a personal website showing his sets could load on the smallest setting very quickly and then direct lookers to his website or other database. Regards Alan D.
