Check out this book that is up on ebay:

I've had this book for some time and I am re-reading it right now.
The approach of the author is to examine chess design from an artistic movement point of view. From the book the author is obviously a big fan of 20th C art styles.
I think some of his ideas are a little weird and one-sided, but it is a good read and a useful reference book especially for more mordern sets.
Cheers
Jim

While it can scarcely be called a book, I thought this was as good or perhaps even the best place to pose this question:
I have never seen this book before. Has anyone else? It appears to have been included with some kind of 'specially-designed' or 'specially-marked' style of chess board.
It has an original printing date of 1944, Games Unlimited Company was out of San Francisco, California
Pages were mis-numbered, page 18 should have been 15
And vice-versa
