Hello everyone. I am not sure about how to do this and I want to write to someone to see about how to do this. I am a fast shipper when people pay for my products. I do not however have the capacity to offer same day shipping. All of my ebay listings are next business day shipping. For most items paid by 12 midnight EST, I have the label on the item and taken to the post office on the next day. I do not however offer for my customers to pay to have overnight shipping or priority mail either. I do not have accounts with Fed Ex or UPS either. Most of my products are under 1 pound especially the brand new video games which are my primary sale items.
I wish to have my customers have the option of priority mail 2-3 days. I do have various boxes that I have ordered from the postal service for free and so I have various sizes. I do some international shipping but I do want my customers to have various options for their choices. I am not sure if I need to do research on various products based on the boxes I will use and various zip codes or regions and post these types of charts on each individual listing. I want to be clear to my customers and not have outrageous charts based on weights, regions, time frames.
some of my listings have assigned shipping charges on them but if a customer wants faster delivery of the item, can I bill them for the higher price that i need to pay the postal service once the sale is through? I have done some billing through paypal and what ever I do through paypal is recognized in Ebay for the most part I believe. Thank you everyone and I look forward to hearing from someone. Peace.

You cannot demand a higher price than you have advertised, but if your customer asks for faster delivery you can give him that option with the appropriate pricing.
Or, you can offer more than one shipping option, some fast, some cheap.
Be careful with the second, however, because many/most people will pay for the cheaper option and expect the more expensive service. Just human nature.

Why? Are your customers complaining? Are you using the very slow but very cheap Media Mail? Is this a Christmas thing?
post these types of charts on each individual listing.
KISS
Use Calculated Shipping. Period. No fancy charts that your customers won't read or worse will mis-read. All you need to do is put in the weight and dimensions of your parcel (which with relativly similar items like DVDs is easy) and the program will cross-reference the buyer's postal code, the dimensions and the service chosen and spit out the correct shipping cost. You can test it by putting in a few codes youself. (I use 9010 for USA but you could use K1A 0A6 for Canada -- that's our Parliament Building here in Ottawa.)

In reference to what shipping I use, I use the first class mail and most of my customers receive the item in 3 to 4 days or less I believe. I only wish to put up priority mail as an option for buyers to receive one day earlier. I think some people will favor the priority shipping service, if advertised, will go for that extra day faster. I hate media mail and I do not wish my customers to learn about media mail at all.
I do favor free shipping for my customers for the regular first class mail and I do include that in the price of the listing but if I want to have priority 2-day shipping as an option, I think I need to make shipping rules and change those settings. Thanks for your response.

These priority boxes are expensive for the buyer in my opinion. I have found using the priority flat rate envelope my lifesaver! Using Ebay itself to calculate postage and print my labels not only do I get a discount (I did compare prices with my post office) but the cost of the envelope is flat rate of about $5.05. I have shipped curtains, shoes, sheet sets, books, jeans with no problem. All these items are generally heavy and if I shipped standard post it would be upwards of $8. As a buyer myself, I wouldn't pay that to ship something. Maybe I'm just cheap but $5 bucks and have it in 2 days, I would be in.

The items I think I have no choice on for shipping priority are the fragrances/ colognes that I am currently selling on my store and I have no choice but to ship these boxes inside of a priority box. I did however choose to set the shipping at just over $6 and I hope, I will not lose significantly at that but in case someone wants that item very soon, the closer we get to Christmas, I want to be prepared for how to handle this fast shipping method. The next large item going out on ebay will be lots of silk ties and I will have to work on over 100 listings. I think it will be best for those items to be shipped in priority mail only because one customer complained about me folding the tie multiple times. I will have to figure out how to ship those items. Thank you very much for your reply. Take care.

USPS has all the rates you will need. If you use Calculated Shipping when you list then you don’t even need to look at the Post Office website (which can be a little confusing). If it is anything like the Canada Post website, there will be different rate cards for Business and Personal.
The option for Calculated Shipping is a drop down. Even with CS you are allowed to add a reasonable Handling fee for your packaging costs. This would include the Delivery Confirmation and insurance which I understand is an option with USPS.
Since, like Canada Post, USPS has regional pricing for packages (Canada Post has only three, Regional (you and the closest province) National (most of the other provinces ) and You Live Where?( mostly the arctic, but the whole population there is under 100,000 not counting caribou). Calculated Shipping will save you time and money in the long run.

If you don’t have gift boxes for these, and I would look into getting some, perhaps from ULine, then pretty tissue and a holiday sticker inside a plastic bad and a Priority envelope would be just fine for almost every customer. Or if you are using discount postage, a bubble envelope (plus tissue and sticker).
I understand about the Christmas. For some years I was closing my store after November 30, just to avoid insane holiday shoppers who expect an order on Christmas Eve to arrive before breakfast Christmas morning.
