Need more detail on exactly what you're seeing when it goes wrong. If you're revising the Shipping details for some reason (e.g. combining two purchases into one package), the Shipping options shown on the Shipping form will disappear as soon as you make a change, and not reappear until you click the Update button. Does that resemble what you're seeing?

This applies to ALL sellers in the USA. For those of you who don't know, you can open an account online with the USPS. I have a business account with them and I get a discounted rate for shipping, including free tracking. When I sell items on Ebay, it is usually when I do multiple listings. I weigh all of the items I have for sale BEFORE I list them, so I know what my shipping costs will be and pass those onto the buyers.
I always ship items USPS Priority Mail, and have never received a complaint from any customer for doing this. They like getting their items in a timely manner. After sale, I create a shipping label online through my USPS account. I then enter the tracking numbers for items through Ebay. Not a problem and I do not have to deal with Ebay should there ever be a problem with an item that a buyer wants to return, as I can handle the returns myself, which I have never had to deal with. Only issue I ever had was that a mail carrier delivered an item to a wrong address. The person who lived at the wrong address was kind enough to bring it to the right address which was several blocks away.
Using my online USPS account, I can request pickup of packages and can state where the items will be located on the premises for the mail carrier to pick up. Each time packages are picked up, they are always scanned before the mail carrier puts them in their truck. Priority Mail shipping supplies from USPS are always free and I'm well stocked up on them. I also do NOT play the tracking number game. When I enter a tracking number on Ebay for a sold item, it has been picked up and on the way. Irks me when a seller provides a tracking number but takes their good old sweet time getting it to the post office or picked up.

Make sure you have "Custom Size" checked and not "Carrier packaging" on the Select package type screen when you print the label. I've gotten tripped up on that a few times.
