It actually sounds like you did it properly.

You would use the same tracking number for both orders and hopefully there are messages just in case a buyer tries to pull a fast one and say they didn't receive one of the items.

What do you mean eBay charged you?  The shipping will be deducted from the earnings yes but I'm not sure what you are referring to.

'refunded'...happy buyer...don't see a problem.

Most buyers don't say 'thank you' by the way of a refund.

The tracking should be on both items individually and not just as a package by the way.

Refunds are somewhat strange to newcomers...

A refund is immediately taken out of 'available funds' in a second even when you have 'processing funds' of the item sold...showing a negative in 'available funds' is nothing unusual...I have it usually every day.

It's a courtesy of a seller to refund if a buyer doesn't or can't combine sales.

This is how sellers get 'repeat buyers'.

Ahhhh Now I get it.  Thank you @12345jamesstamps for reminding me of this..

As a new seller, your payments will be on hold for up to 30 days, I'll post a link for you on that..

Since the payment is on hold, the refund you gave the buyer is taken out of your payment account, the account you will receive your funds to when eBay pays you.

Later when you have available funds from sales, that aren't being held, a refund would come from there..

I'm sorry.. This can be very confusing for new sellers.

Good Luck selling.. And when you have questions please come back to the boards. The chat & call back reps are notorious for giving out poor info so you will get better advice, faster here.

As promised that link about payment holds:

You are not being charged anything additional for refunding shipping, you just see that you are funding it initially as a new seller, until ebay sends you the full amount
