IMO, the seller.  It has happened to me - postman leaves a package right on the edge of a covered porch.  Rain ruins the package - wouldn’t have if he had pushed it it just two extra feet.

You won't like this answer, but it is you that needs to provide a secure place for deliveries. Can it be saved?

You are. You're the one providing a safe and secure place for packages to be left at.

The postman, if it is priority then it was insured.  Get your money back.

You didn't say whether you're the buyer or the seller, but, since this is the Selling board, I'll assume you are indeed the seller.

It's the buyer's responsibility to provide a safe place for delivery of a package.

I doubt they'll pay out on a package that was delivered because it got caught in the rain - it's up to the recipient to provide a safe place for packages.  Definitely NOT the seller's responsibility.

How do you figure this is the seller's responsibility?

If the buyer opens a case for INAD as damaged, seller is responsible.

Well, if there is a secure area, but left out in the open, rather than it that secured area, isn’t that the fault of the USPS, and covered by the seller?

@pburn

I hadn't considered this... I thought the OP was the buyer. Hey, @4money2012, if you're the seller then it's not on you. 🙌

How can the seller 'provide a secure place for deliveries'?   As a seller, I package the best I can and ship to the address they've given me.   It's why sellers aren't responsible for packages being stolen once delivered.  It's the BUYER that needs to provide a secure place for deliveries.

Since you are also a seller I am presuming one of your buyers has this situation and you want to hear what others think. If you have the delivered scan than you completed your portion by getting the item delivered. Buyer is required to have a safe and secure location to receive packages. That said, buyer can always open a case against you using their payment method so remain polite and offer sympathy. Perhaps the item is salvageable even though the box was wet. Do your best to keep the buyer happy and hopefully they will go away. Best of luck to you....
