usps lost package

usps lost a package sent to ATLANTA GA
seems that they have a major problem at the ATLANTA GA NETWORK DISTRIBUTION, 30369 center
with labels getting
destroyed in one or morn of their machines
i was told that i should a second label or an invoice inside the shipping box
that way when a label gets damage they will look inside the box
if they find the information they will then send the box on
if not the box is held in limbo

Instead of telling the people to put a shipping label inside the box they should fix the machine so it doesn't destroy labels.

The machines don't destroy labels unless they aren't attached securely. I've shipped a few thousand packages (a number of which have gone through Atlanta) and not once have I ever had a label get destroyed or damaged.

I can't tell you how many people I've seen in the post office with packages with labels that were just Scotch taped on around the edges. That's just asking for the label to get torn off.

The  Virgina  USPS processing Hub has some major issues  with parcels  going missing     . I have a 1st. class  parcel  that fell off the scan radar  since the last scan on Jan.31,2023   . I had a internal scan  done and  the last information was  that the  parcel was load into shipping carton and load on the trailer Jan. 31 2023  . but no proof it left  the yard  .  My seller did refund me .     I hope it show's up at some point if at all .

Curious as to where you got your info regarding machines tearing labels off.  The processing equipment at these facilities really has no way of ripping labels off packages or destroying them.  Parcels are dumped out of containers onto conveyor belts and speed through scales and scanners that then send them to other bins that are destined for a processing facility nearer the end destination.  Most of the time label issues are caused by the mailers not placing them on correctly so as to not get ripped off when bumping with other larger parcels in holding equipment and during transportation. I would review how you are placing your labels. Old labels do not stick as well. I always place a clear 2" tape strip across the top half of the bar code and cover the destination name and address. This helps to insure the printer ink doesn't get smeared by rain, etc. plus protects both the bar code and address. I have never had an issue with over 10,000 parcels mailed. I am a retired Postmaster of 33 years that also worked in a large plant.

Ask your local Postmaster or Manager to pull up the scan photo of your parcel at the various Plants it shows going through.  The USPS takes snapshots of almost all mailing labels and envelopes as they traverse the distribution network.  This could show you any label issues. Good luck!

The Plant Equipment does not destroy labels.  It is almost impossible. I believe the OP may have gotten bad info.  I worked at several large processing plants and know the equipment firsthand. Most label issues are a result of poor packaging.

I noticed you have a negative from a buyer stating they received an item damaged and sent you a photo of the box showing it was not damaged by the USPS as you claimed.  You should review how you are placing labels to avoid problems in the future.  Just a suggestion.  Have a good day.
