This question has come up a few times this month. I suggest @treasurehunter1969 and @mark33usmc both check out eBay's shipping calculator. Enter your zip, box dimensions and weight to see a cost comparison across USPS, UPS and FedEx:

https://www.ebay.com/shp/Calculator

Sometimes a difference of 1" in box length can have a significant impact. For easy reference, USPS nonstandard surcharges are:

Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express shipments

  • $4 if any length of your package exceeds 22 inches but is less than or equal to 30 inches
  • $15 if any length of your package exceeds 30 inches
  • $25 for packages greater than 2 cubic feet in volume
  • $1.50 for missing or incorrect dimensions that result in any of the above non-standard surcharges

Parcel Select and Retail Ground shipments

  • $4 if any length of your package exceeds 22 inches but is less than or equal to 30 inches
  • $7 if any length of your package exceeds 30 inches
  • $15 for packages greater than 2 cubic feet in volume
  • $1.50 for missing or incorrect dimensions that result in any of the above non-standard surcharges

Here's a discussion about both boxes and rates:

With new dim weight regulations I would not ship a golf club USPS.

I find FedEx is much more generous with their dim weight.

Really? They both use a 166 divisor here on eBay. Dm wt shouldn't create an advantage with one carrier over another for a single golf club.

But length might. USPS will apply nonstandard surcharges based on length as mentioned above.
