shipping price for large Priority orders (own box)

I was at the P.O. today. I brought in a large Lego set in my own box (too large for flat rate boxes). Well they measured it and charged me WAY over what it would be just by weight. So now I am confused.  How do I list such boxes going forward? Is there a way to get the SYI to enter dimensions of the box?

It's Self-Service. On your listing, under 'Package weight and dimensions', you'll need to use 'Large Package' and enter the dimensions of the size of your outer box. Then, enter the correct weight for your package. Of course, under Domestic Shipping, you'll be able to set it to charge your buyer according to their location, instead of a 'one size fits all' approach.

I'd not even consider shipping Legos internationally... but that's just me. Good luck next go-around!

Use eBay USPS labels and use calculated shipping. Enter the total weight and box dimension for your item when listing.

1. Make sure the length X width X height of your box is never more then 1728 cubic inches (if not you will get unbelievable dimensional weight pricing). Boxes that are 12" X 12" X 12" work. Boxes that are 16" X 10" X 8" work. Calculate length X width X height to be sure.

2. Weights are rounded up to nearest pound for priority mail (1# 1oz is 2#), but box sizes are rounded down (for less the 1/2 inch over)! If you are 1/2 inches or over round up. If you are LESS then 1/2 inch over round down. So a 12.25" X 12.25" X 12" box is reported as as 12"x12"x12" box. But if length is 12.5" or greater, it would be measured as 13".

Media Mail Girl's head explodes.

And I haven't even listed the really big sets.  I will probably have to buy some boxes to ship them in. Now I wonder if they will cost $50 or whatever just for shipping.  I guess I could only do Local Pickup but wouldn't that kill bidding up?

If the measurements of your item (L x W x H)  are under the 1728 cubic inches and a purchased box that fits is bigger... it may be better to cut a box to fit.  It can be a fairly quick craft project to get an old TV, washing machine, or moving box cut and taped around an item.  Turn box inside out if there is too much writing or you can also wrap in craft paper.

Use eBay's shipping calculator to check cost and shipping options before listing.  If you don't enter a specific zip destination, it will show the costs for different zones across the country (calculated shipping).
