eBay is an advertising venue.  You purchased your phone from an individual seller who advertises his listings on eBay.  Thus there is no point in blaming eBay for the failure of your phone.

Since you have had your phone for 7 months, there is nothing eBay or PayPal can do to help you.   The responsibility is yours.

You simply waited too long to open a return request. It took you 7 months to do something about it?

There are no warranties on eBay. eBay is an online flea market. You should have purchased a warranty. After 7 months you have no recourse. You'll have to get the phone repaired or buy a new one.

EBay only covers you for 30 days, PayPal for 180 days, you are past both. I suggest you try your credit card company and open a chargeback for the item. You will have to pay return shipping, but that is your last hope unless the manufacture is willing to step in (doubtful)

Unless the seller is an authorized retailer for the phone you bought, there are no warranties that would cover you. For that reason, this venue is a terrible place to by a smart phone, tablet, or computer. This site is great for vintage tools and vintage electronics, especially the parts for those items which are not available elsewhere. It's also a good place to buy tools, from authorized retailers, that come with a factory warranty.

You have only 30 days to file an item not as described claim with eBay, 180 days with PayPal. Sorry, but you will have to take it it an electronics repair shop, on your dime.

What is the policy with items that aren't electronics but are not fit for purpose?

I bought an item (wooden bath rack) that took months to arrive. The seller (located in China) said the first one they received from their supplier was not of good quality so that was the delay. When it finally arrived it did not seem the best quality but I had waited so long I was just glad to finally have it and hoped it would be ok. Fast forward a few months and I noticed mould starting to form in places on it even though I kept it out of any standing water. This just got worse and eventually, the whole bath rack just fell apart. It's like the wood was never treated/protected in any way so it was just destroyed from any water that might have splashed onto it. My previous bath rack (from Habitat) lasted 9 years without a spot of mould and only broke when my 7-year-old child sat on it. This one was covered in mould and completely fell apart within 4 months so as far as I am concerned it is a product that was not fit for purpose. I paid £35 for it so it was expensive and I feel I should be given a refund but the seller won't respond to any messages I send and I cannot open a query with EBay through their online service as the item is not listed in my recent purchases as too much time has passed. What are my options? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Throw it away and buy a new one. You have no recourse through eBay. The MBG is not a product warranty. The item worked as intended for 4 months.
