I won an auction item, but it was listed that it may not ship to Canada. I contacted the seller prior to bidding, who replied he/she is willing to ship to Canada.
After the auction ended, I requested a total but I keep getting:
" You can't request a total for items that require an immediate payment."

Thank everyone for your response, I and the seller was able to resolve this.
We were both relatively new / don't use eBay much, so we didn't know what to do.
I contacted eBay for help. and they provided me this link for the seller to change settings to allow international shipping:
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements
I forwarded that link to the seller and he/she was able to change the settings.
Going to tag @completepuzzle, hopefully, it helps your case as well.

I received that message recently, too. I also received this one: You can't request a total because the seller has already offered a discount for these items.

Your best bet at this point is to message the seller via "contact seller" link in your item purchases. The wonderful eBay system is not going to be able to handle this one automatically. How much is the system asking you to pay? I am guessing this was free shipping to the US.
If you have PayPal, the easiest thing would be to agree to the extra shipping cost via eBay messaging. Then use PayPal to pay the overage.
There are other more formal ways like cancel the sale the then re-list with the correct shipping charge. If you dont feel good about paying the extra on PayPal then have seller cancel, re-list and you re-purchase is the standard way to go in this case of owing extra. You will have to work it out with the seller via eBay messages so you have a record of what was agreed to.

@oatmilkonly The request total in the cart doesn't work for a single item.
Just send the seller a message and ask them to send you an invoice with the shipping cost to Canada.
They do have the ability to do that since the auction has ended.
