a seller who had asked ebay for an explanation of very high postage to canada was told that canada post has added a surcharge due to covid 19.
this is false.
canada post did add a surcharge last christmas; it was temporary and required to offset gasoline costs - according to c.p.
that surcharge has been withdrawn.
what c.p. is doing in response to covid19 is
1 - quarantining incoming parcels
2 - not requiring signatures and/or IDs
3 - dispensing with various types of delivery
4 - knock-drop-go delivery: postman literally drops pkg at door, knocks on door and leaves.
5 - a small number of parcels fall outside the above and are being kept indefinitely at one's local post office (pre-covid c.p. had a 15-day "grace period" before returning the parcel to sender)

There's nothing anyone can do about the cost of postage. The post office determines the cost. It is what it is. The seller can add a handling charge. They do not have to give the buyer a break down of what is handling and what is actual postage.

It certainly appears to have become widespread & convenient for people, especially liars, to blame covid 19 for most everything these days.
