partial refunds

i purchased an item last week, and when it arrived, part of it was damaged. I reached out to the seller and we agreed on an amount for a partial refund. So i opened a return case and he offered the partial refund. after i accepted i got an ebay notice “unable to send refund” and so i clicked on the option to have them step in. they then approved it as a full return and told me to send the item back. However, this isn’t what i want. I just want to get the partial refund. what should i do/what is my next step?

Abort your eBay case requiring you to send the item back

by starting a PayPal dispute instead here and request a partial refund.
