how to handle buyers with a specific packing instruction part 2

yesterday  i posted how to handle buyers with unreasonable shipping requests.

the buyer wants me to ship a certain way, see my other post for more info but i was wondering if i could cancel the transaction due to the specific requests.

here is a copy of the message he or she attached to the order.

To ensure safe transport please pad the case in several layers of bubblewrap and "float" the heavy case in a VERY LARGE STRONG CARTON. To protect from shock the box must have a minimum of 6" space (filled with tightly crumpled paper) in all directions surrounding the clock. I will happily pay any upcharge covering shipping the large box.

can i cancel this order due to unreasonable demands. the item is small but with the demands and size demands the box will have to be huge. item is about 8 or 9 inches tall 6 inches wide and 3 inches thick with what he is saying is ship in a box that is 21x18x15 from what i am understanding with his math requirements.

that cost goes to a huge amount in shipping price and also the material i need to use to fill the void is costly.

thanks for all the good response on the last post

i just wonder if i could cancel but only if i am protected from bad feedback, is there a way.

i have had many many special requests but none as detailed as this buyer picked medium flat rate box for shipping option.

I'm pretty sure you can cancel, but first you need to report the buyer for making demands outside the listing. Then cancel using 'problem with address'. No, you will not be protected from negative feedback.

Why didn't you add this question to your original discussion thread?

I would say "I will be happy to comply with your request that I add additional packing material to order, however there will be an additional cost for shipping materials and an increase in the actual cost to ship the package. Please send an additional $  to cover your request". You would not be protected from adverse feedback if you cancelled the order.

They seem willing to pay so send them a quote for the new shipping amount and include insurance and delivery signature. 6' on all sides is way above the norm. Double boxed with 2" all around would likely suffice.

You might politely remind the buyer the buyer that if they have specific shipping requests they should ask before the purchase.

i just got off the phone with ebay and they said the same thing. they gave me a reference number and told me to call back if negative feedback was received and it would be removed. they told me to take a screen shot of the buyer note as well.

i don't mind when people say hey can you use bubble wrap and packing peanuts and i can understand  and i do use all new stuff and bubble wrap and packing peanuts. but i think this buyer is going way beyond what is needed and being super picky. he does have lots of feedback and no history of leaving people bad feedback but i just checked to see what the rate would be and its about 60 dollars with my ebay discount with the ballon rate. plus the amount of material to fill all that void is costly. as you all know packing peanuts and bubble wrap are not cheap.  its small clock only cost 40 dollars plus the 15.50 he paid for shipping.

to answer your question why is this is not added to the original post is because people will have to read through all messages and more likely to get confused or not read things fully. i have found from posting in the forum that a good chunk of repliers don't even read the first message fully cause they will ask questions that answers were already in the first original post. so a fresh thread will likely get better accurate responses. i would have to reply to my post and hope someone reads my reply and post fully. i cannot edit my post after people have replied there is not edit function to it after a reply.

i messaged the buyer letting him know that if i ship in his method shipping would be over 60 dollars.

he sent me a message back with a alternative way to ship.

ok no problem i see your point just ship in a 10x10x16 box and layer it with bubble wrap only and have the item sit in the center floating.

i do not have a box that is that exact size. i think canceling is the best bet he seems nice but these request are out of control for what little money is involved for this item. it is nothing special.  it's a small alarm clock that was 40 dollars.
