Dealing with a difficult buyer and just mailed breakables in a large (store bought) box because the large priority box was too small. I also have an Etsy store and all priority mailing automatically includes insurance up to $100. Didn't add insurance to the Ebay mailing and now just read that EBay priority doesn't automatically include insurance if you don't use a USPS Priority box. True or false??? My fear is that the buyer will smash the box on purpose. Woe is me 😞

False. That insurance is not issued by eBay or Etsy, it is issued by USPS itself.

First off, just to clarify, it's $50 for priority and $100 for priority mail express.
Second, it doesn't matter if you use a box issued by the USPS or your own, you are still covered.
Finally, the poster above is correct...etsy and ebay are not providing the insurance, it's the USPS.

One small clarification: Regular Priority Mail automatically includes $50 of insurance coverage from USPS if you pay the retail or Commercial Base (regular online) rate, but if you pay the Commercial Plus rate, then the included insurance is $100. eBay Top Rated Sellers automatically pay the Commercial Plus rates for all their Priority Mail packages. Since the original poster isn't a TRS, this is a moot point here: He got $50 of coverage with his eBay label.

As noted: False. Your ebay package automatically included $50 of insurance coverage.
I don't understand why you think that insurance coverage (or not) would induce your buyer to destroy the package.
