Since enrolling in free returns, I have only seen a slight increase in sales, not much at all.. what concerns me is that I had no clue I was being charged for return shipping cost!!!! it isn't noted on my the refund notification....why??? I found out when I looked at my monthly statement! I want to know exactly what I am agreeing to refund... many buyers do not look at my measurements that I take time to put in my listings.. doesn't fit, why am I paying for return shipping? If there was something wrong with the item, I have no issue paying for return shipping! How are small sellers ever going to see daylight! I earned Top Rated Plus through hard work and to have it taken away because ebay decides to change the rules.... I was doing fine!!! Now the cost of Top Rated Plus is free returns.......
I used to refund buyers before the changes, but I did not refund shipping! costs... I'm sure there are many sellers in the same boat!!

Free Returns means just that: The seller pays for return shipping on all returns, no matter remorse or defective. That's as plain as it gets!
You have to decide yourself if free returns fits your selling strategy, attracting more buyers who search for sellers offering free returns, or if it will be disastrous to your success.

Free returns is exactly that - a free return for the buyer. They can return for any reason, or no reason at all, and the return shipping is paid by the seller.
If you have free returns and offer free shipping, you CANNOT withhold original shipping.
If you have free returns and have buyer paid shipping, you CAN withhold original shipping. This I can confirm. You can also deduct up to 50% of the refund for an item that is returned not in its original condition. Feedback is also protected - negs regarding withheld shipping, etc. can be removed by calling Ebay. If a buyer complains about withheld funds, Ebay deals with it and not the seller.

I'm curious as to what you thought offering free returns meant?
