ebay keeps adding usps media mail as a shipping option?

no clue how it happens as I have been manually adding in shipping services...or even how ebay doesnt know not to do this? but yeah, I had an automotive interior quarter panel that measure 34"x"26"x10" and is 15lb sell.  ok, sure.  went to print out my shipping label which was $56 and noticed the buyer only paid $14.95 shipping? huh?  then I see that they selected media mail as the shipping option vs fedex which is what I had put in.

I checked the original listing and sure enough it was an option.  seriously? there are no cds or books THAT big haha.  I had to cancel the listing and relist it and go in again and edit it and remove the media mail option.  even had to do it on the twin item listing for the opposite side panel.

I guess my question is this.  is there a quick way to check all my calculated shipping listings and remove ALL the media mail options for things that should automatically be KNOWN they arent media?  or do I need to manually look at my 50+ active listings so this doesnt happen again?

thanks for any info!

Yes you can check which listings have this as an option.  Or just simply do a mass edit to make sure each listings reads as it should by using the Bulk Editor.

Do all your listings that are Free Shipping and just change them all to be Free shipping again.  That will wipe out any other options for shipping there are.

On your listings where you have stated shipping, you may need to do those one at a time.

For the future, I would suggest setting up Templates for creating listings.  They are really handy.  I have one set up for every type of item I sell on a regular basis.  Each Template has their own title which is describes the type of item the template is for, I fill in as many of the ISB's that are pretty generic to my listings, or add new ones that I use on most listings.  In the description I put my TOSs as those are in all my listings.  I set up what my normal shipping is, return policy and handling time.  I fill in as many fields as I can.  It saves me all kinds of time when creating new listings.

If you can use templates you may be able to keep this issue from happening again.  BTW templates are different than drafts.  Templates are not deleted after 90 days.

If you have more questions about Bulk editing or setting up a template, just ask.

I checked the original listing and sure enough it was an option.

It was an option because you allowed it to be there.

seriously?

IMHO you are in a much better position than eBay to determine whether an item qualifies for media mail than eBay is.

I guess my question is this.  is there a quick way to check all my calculated shipping listings and remove ALL the media mail options for things that should automatically be KNOWN they arent media?

IMHO the best way to manage shipping is through Business Policies, so that you can change the policy which automatically updates all listing that use that policy.

I do not mind it being a option when setting up a listing but what we have had happen on quite a few occasions is that when printing out bulk shipping on listings that have already had the shipping all set up it will default to media mail and then you will have a media mail label printed out.

The first time I just assumed that I had accidently selected media mail in the listing but that is not the case, very annoying, you have to go through every one and make sure that non have somehow became media mail

I ran a scan on your listings @stackz and none of your active listings offer media mail. You are offering:

generic unspecified service economy on 48 listings

fedex ground economy on 6 listings

fedex ground or fedex home delivery on 19 listings

local pickup on 2 listings

ups ground on 2 listings

usps ground advantage on 18 listings

EDIT: just be careful to not select media mail when setting up new listings, and if you 'sell similar' or 'relist' from an old listing make sure media mail is not on there.

It will often do that if the shipping service on the listing is unspecified, like generic economy or generic standard. It will also do that sometimes if the shipping service on the listing is not available for one reason or another (package wt/dm, service discontinued, etc) and the system defaults to the cheapest service (media mail) so you have to keep an eye on it.

I had a couple other that had it in but instead of waiting on a response I just went ahead and manually went through all the listings which were listed around the same time as the panels and removed the media mail as an option.  also, how did you scan my listings? I'd be curious how to do that myself as this isnt the first time I've had to update listings.  the other time is when, for whatever reason, immediate payment wasnt checked in the listing.

Hi @stackz

I agree with @mam98031  on the point to use Templates to avoid the potential of the wrong shipping method being used on a listing.

One caution though on using Templates is if you Edit one ... double check ALL of your preferred settings before updating the Template. I have seen the Offer function turned on, Free shipping turns on and a few other settings changed to apparent eBay defaults when Editing Templates.  I have also seen my Handling time change from 1 to 2 days.  This doesn't happen every time so it may be related to specific categories the Templates are for ... that's about the only thing I can figure.

Wow, I've used templates for  years and over those years I have had need to edit them from time to time.  I have never had any of what you describe happen unless I was the one that made the change.  But I will keep my eyes open for such to happen.

I'm sorry that this issue happened to you.  All I can say is I have not had this happen.  I'm just sharing my experience, nothing more.
