Question? Does eBay act as a third party to sell and ship for a party even if not listed on EBay?

Absolutely not. Any seller that lists something on another site and says ebay will handle the sale is a scammer.

No! Walk away, don't communicate, don't send gift cards, don't send texts. There is no protection if you're lured offsite. And the item doesn't even exist...

NO. Don't fall for it.

If you find something on a non-eBay site and they tell you eBay is handling the transaction and ask for your name and email so eBay can send you details it's a big ole scam. The invoice is fake. The email and phone number in the fake invoice connects to the scammer. They're trying to steal gift cards. R U N eBay doesn't store or ship vehicles or handle payments on vehicles. There's no inspection period because vehicles can't be returned.

This is a scam, most commonly seen with car listings @ddgelliott. They're trying to scam you out of money or gift cards for an item that does not exist.
eBay doesn't sell or ship anything. eBay is a marketplace made up of sellers and those sellers are the ones that list and ship. Even if you find a listing on eBay itself, you shouldn't be taking the sale or payment off site.

Thank you this was helpful!

I'm so glad you came and asked BEFORE losing money. Too often, buyers come here after they've been scammed wanting to know how to get their money back.

NO NEVER ! Anyone that says that is a liar and a thief that want's to steal your money. eBay never assists in sales or payments of items on other sites. eBay never ships either, the seller ships.
If your asked to purchase gift cards to pay, RUN. That too means scam!

Only when you're dealing with a thief that want's to steal your money.

EBAY WHY DO YOU ALLOW THIS 3RD PARTY CRAP = I know have a police record on count of EBAY
A purchase I made from one of ebay 3rd party sellers turned out like this
I buy from a ebay seller USA location listed item altho their feedback said their location was China (deceptive)
Next it was a new item listed that I purchased from this ebay seller in the USA and then this seller ( I'm guessing they were in China ) went to a USA on line Box store to purchase the item I purchased from them ( why would ebay allow them to sell something they don't own anyway? ).
NEXT this ebay seller used a stolen credit card to make that purchase and gave my address where to send to.
NEXT I get a call from the police and then the FBI asking me about the stolen credit card purchase that the ebay seller used to buy my purchase from them.
NEXT I now have a police record for something I had nothing to do with thinking I was safe figuring ebay
had my back in which to find out they didn't and allow these 3rd party sellers on their website
BEWARE BUYING ON EBAY if the sellers feedback ( CHINA ) don't match the sellers location ( USA )

eBay does have policies that prohibit this sort of drop shipping, but some overseas sellers do have their items in warehouses in the US so there's nothing inherently suspicious about items in the US when the seller is registered outside the US. Also, Triangulation fraud schemes involving stolen credit cards can happen regardless of where the seller claims to be located.

The original post in this thread was about a completely different issue: does eBay get involved with transactions for items that were listed on other sites, such as Craigslist or Facebook.
