eBay Returns Policy Is Unworkable

eBay encourages the seller to offer free returns. It is evident that eBay attempts to model themselves after Amazon. If you have engaged in an Amazon free return you will understand the ease in doing so. eBay does not have the free return system as Amazon does. They do not have the software and logistics to make the free return process cost effective. eBay talks and acts big but they are not close to being what Amazon is. Amazon conducts an equitable relationship between all three parties in a transaction. eBay places the entire burden on the seller.  eBay needs to work harder to develop a system that is unique to the selling experience we subscribe to.  Not emulate Amazon.

Are you saying that if I start selling on Amazon as a third-party seller who handles his own shipping and inventory, Amazon's logistics will make these returns more cost effective?

I can see how Amazon's software and logistics would help with the cost of returns for items sold by Amazon directly or sold by sellers using "Fulfullment By Amazon", but I don't see how that would help not for small third-party sellers like those on eBay who handle their own shipping and returns.

Can you explain exactly how Amazon lowers the cost of returns for small third-party sellers like those on eBay?

I will take eBay over Amazon any day!

The companies are totally different and Amazon spends a lot of money trying to hide complaints and issues. They practically get free advertising on local news for the dumbest things. It's almost like subliminal advertising.  Every night it seems to be Amazon, Apple, & Starbucks over and over again.  I feel I'm watching commercials during the news! I usually turn the channel.

The local tax payers pay for their warehouses & local taxes breaks across the country while the local politicians get a kick back for letting this happen in exchange to employ people.

There is no such thing as free shipping! Someone is paying for it one way or another.

I remember a year ago this time, you had all kinds of web companies ( women's clothing & bras mainly) advertising that you can buy the items your interested in and then return what you don't want for free. Have not seen any of those recently.

If you really look for a product on Amazon and then look at eBay, you will probably find eBay is cheaper overall and you don't have to pay eBay an annual fee.  This is more of a mental sale to those who pay that with Amazon. People have that thought process that they need to shop Amazon first to use their free annual membership for free shipping.  It's that self satisfaction pleasure that people seek.

I will always remember the report of "used diapers" that were sold on Amazon. It was on their open / damage / returns site I believe.
