eBay Return Policy Needs Revision

eBay Money Back Guarantee means buyers will get their money back if the item they ordered didn't arrive, is faulty or damaged, or doesn't match the listing. This needs to be slightly modified so it does not give buyers unlimited power or blank check. eBay should also protects small sellers, who cannot afford losing money on return shipping. Under this money back policy, buyers can (i) lie when they have remorse by saying "item not as described" to avoid/recover shipping cost; or (ii) blackmail sellers by asking for partial refund since sellers would be paying shipping both ways. In my last return, 3 different eBay staff members agreed that the buyer was misusing return, still nothing could be done. In my view, (i) eBay should let their staff decide if item was indeed not as described based on proofs provided by buyers & sellers; it should not be automated, just based on buyers selecting the option “items not as described”. (ii) Sellers should have the option of blocking buyers who have made X number of returns in a given month, similar to unpaid cases or defects. (ii) Money back should be limited to the country where seller is located; if seller has not opted for international return, there should not be one.

Ok then, eBay finds for the seller and the buyer goes to their credit card and files a chargeback. Then you will refund them AND pay a $25 chargeback fee. Buyers have consumer protection regardless of whether sellers agree or not.

Ebay has no way to know the seller is not lying and therefore they undo the transaction as best they can. That is contract law when the sales contract has been breached by the seller.

Yes, buyers can lie.  eBay protects buyers, and as the previous poster said, without examining the item itself, eBay cannot find out the truth.  This is the best they can do.

And no, eBay should not protect small sellers any more than they should protect large sellers.  Your economic circumstances are not their responsibility.  You need to protect yourself.
