Seems like the USPS has a new scam. Never before have I had so much merchandise broken in shipping and now a total refusal to pay claims when the package was insured. I have been selling for 20 years and had a few damaged packages, but they were insured and as soon as I filed a claim and showed proof of damage (pics from the buyer of packaging, and items). The claims were always paid timely. It seems lately as though no matter how well an item is packaged, they damage it. Now they require the buyer to bring the packaging and the item to their local post office so they can decide whether to pay the claim, knowing that is not going to happen, and deny the claim. But of course, the buyer is fine because Ebay will just give them a refund. So the only person out is the innocent one who purchased insurance and did everything in their power to get the item to it's destination in one piece. I have made 4 claims in 6 months and every one of them was denied. They know that they are off the hook to pay claims as long as it is Ebay. Between the post office and Ebay it is almost impossible to come out even anymore.

Try a different shipping service:
The USPS always had the right to examine the items and packages before paying the insurance claim.
Also rethink your packing: if it will not take a 1 story drop; it aint packed well enough...
In other words would it survive falling of the roof of a house???

This poster is absolutely correct. If you are shipping breakables/fragile items, packing your item correctly will reduce the possibility of damage to your item during shipping. If you can hear the item moving around in the box, when shaken. It's not packaged well and will arrive damaged.
