Anyone else noticed? Over the weekend, the prices being quoted for using SmartPost have just exploded! Much higher than they were last week - is this some sort of programming glitch? I just checked FedEx rates on their own website, and those prices for SmartPost are much lower. What's happening?

Hello everyone, I wanted to let you know that we are aware of some recent issues with FedEx SmartPost shipments. Recently, pricing changes were introduced and necessary updates were not made in time on our end. We are working to resolve problems with our shipping calculator, search results, view item pages and checkout. The pricing seen by sellers when printing SmartPost labels is accurate, but may be more than what the buyer was charged.
Until this is resolved, we recommend that sellers utilize an alternative service. Also be aware that lightweight packages (those under 10lb by weight or dimension) are typically the only sizes where SmartPost provides significant savings over other shipping services.
We apologize for any trouble this may have caused and will provide updates as they become available!

You forgot to add the part where eBay will be paying for the difference between the price for shipping collected from the Buyer and the greater price paid by the Seller for that label.

I've called them twice this weekend( ebay), they tell me they are having technical issues with smart post but don't know when it can or will be resolved.
I mostly ship fed ex smart post as some of my items are large, bulky or heavy. This mode of shipping helps save the Buyer shipping costs when they are not in a hurry. An item that would normally cost 13.50 to ship, this weekend is 27.65!!! USPS costs are ok and not affected however. Perhaps this is a ploy/way for e bay to force us to use a faster mode of shipping to compete with Amazon! This is not funny.

>>Thanks. But I've checked directly with FedEx and this isn't about DIM weight. There's a screwup in the ebay system
There is no screwup in the Smartpost eBay label rates you are seeing - they are correct. It is about dim weight for any size package (Dim Weights: 6x6x6 -> 2lb 8x8x8 -> 4lb 10x10x6 -> 5lb 12x10x10 -> 9lb 16x14x8 -> 13lb)
You need to understand dimensional weight issues, and the fact that Smartpost base rates don't increase smoothly - there is a $4-7 jump between 9 and 10 pounds)

Funny thing is FedEx never charged Dim on Smartpost over years I used them unless they where over size based size in their rate chart. FedEx has been complaining about the money lose's On the shipping deal they gave amazon .

From what recall about smartpost shipping FedEx pack's them on flat and shipped ground on truck and not handed over to addresse's P.O. for delivery . Great thing is FedEx did not Use Dim rules on service unles it was over size package .

I thought I had (painstakingly) removed SmartPost from all my listings. But one sold today. Buyer was charged $13.50 for Smartpost. FedEx calculated $27+. That's more than double! I can ship Fed Ex Home for a little over $18 which is the next cheapest rate. But I'm still out another $5 because of the wrong rates being shown to buyers

Hi everyone, I have an update on this topic to share: we've implemented fixes to the way that FedEx SmartPost costs are displayed that should resolve the recent problem with buyers seeing a different price than what you see when you went to print labels. I apologize for the trouble this may have caused and recommend contacting Customer Service if you have any questions about the shipping discrepancies you may have run into while this was an issue.

Trinton..this hasn't solved the problem.
The whole point of Smart Post is ..lower ..cost ..shipping,
which was usefull on lower value items(under $100).
It no longer full fills this purpose..our rates go up and poorer shoppers can not buy.
eBay..the solution is you find an alternative so sales go up.
