combining declared value on multipackage order?

Hi all.

I'm getting ready to list an item that will most likely have to be shipped in multiple boxes and I'm trying to determine the shipping cost. I started with ups shipping calculator and theres a part for "declared value".  The total order will be about 3000. Do I put 3000 on each of the boxes declared value? or split it 1500 for each?

Is there a better way to ship multiple items to ?

Each box has its own value, based on the actual contents. However, if you are shipping a single item with multiple pieces in more than a single box, UPS does have a means of specifying Box 1 of 2, Box 2 of 2, and indicating a total value. I don't think eBay's calculator is compatible with the UPS system.

On eBay, you cannot specify multiple boxes with multiple weights or values. You'll have to figure out how much money you want for shipping so that potential buyers see a lump sum. One way to do it is to use calculated shipping for the heaviest box and add a handling fee for the approximate cost of shipping the second box.
Or just set a selling price that includes all or part of the expected shipping cost.
