can't access return tracking info after case closed

An item I bought on the 10th did not arrive as the seller put the wrong item in the package. I filed for a return on the 14th, sent back the 15th, they received it on the 18th. They asked me to close the case so the amount would not auto-refund as I was expecting them to send the correct item instead. After 5 days I have received a complete runaround. I could file directly through Paypal but I CAN NOT FIND THE RETURN TRACKING NUMBER ANYWHERE. The eBay case page no longer shows that info, and the print label page must be coded to not stick in browser history as I couldn't even find it there. I need this info to file a Paypal claim against this seller to get a refund as I do not believe I'm going to receive what I initially ordered.

You say they "asked you to close the case". You didn't, did you? We need to know so that we can help you proceed.

But you don't need a tracking number... breathe...

I stated everything 100% perfectly clear in the initial post concerning the steps of this return. eBay has chosen to hide the return tracking # after the fact, I need that info to file a claim through Paypal directly.

The seller in question is ccggamescollecting. They have refused/ignored demands for a refund 5 times. They have flip-flopped on whether they have a tracking # for the correct item, which they refuse to supply either way(nor has my USPS Informed Delivery account even picked up a label from them, which it would have if such a label existed). They claim my item was sent to another buyer but they haven't received it back, yet can't give details. I do not believe they will deliver. I have filed a Paypal dispute and escalated to a claim even without the return tracking info(which eBay has NO reason to hide in the case info but does anyway). They failed to deliver on the purchased item and have given iffy, inconsistent & dodgy responses. If they have not voluntarily refunded me today I will take the next step and leave appropriate feedback.

I have been forced to leave the seller a negative after they have again refused to comply with a demand for a refund.

 

I will also likely be moving to Mercari soon as eBay's CS response was "we are aware this seller cheated you, but you voluntarily closed the case and even if it was due to seller deception, we don't care. Have a nice day". I'll just recoup my loss by not paying next month's seller fees if I have to.

Got it. You closed your eBay case. You still have the option of opening an Item Not As Received case with PayPal... but do it correctly. PayPal is your last option... unless you paid with a credit card. You still don't need a tracking number for the claim.

This is a fourth option... but know that eBay will only give you 30 days to pay your fees before they shut you down.

If seller has tracking number/proof of delivery for the initial shipment, buyer will lose a Item Not Received PayPal case.

The issue is Significantly Not As Described so how you figure OP don't need a return tracking number to prove return of item?

Did you download the pdf of the return label to print out to when you returned item? Is it possible to contact eBay customer service for the return tracking number?

 

And go through your browser history for the usps tracking page if you tracked the return package previously.

Depending on how you are set up, sometimes you can find labels by exploring your browser downloads.

I'm not sure how that helps with PayPal, but you can always file a charge-back with your debit card or credit card.  That's probably the course I would take.

That pretty much ends whatever backing you had with eBay ...
