When does eBay consider ownership of an item to have transferred from seller to buyer?

I have a large machine for sale and have it listed as Local Pickup Only. I was contacted by a buyer that lives out of state and wants to pay to have a freight company come pickup the machine. They would crate and ship it.

My question is...when does liability change hands? If their shipper messes up the machine in transit are we still liable since it wasn't delivered yet? Or does the buyer take ownership as soon as their hired company picks up the machine?

When does eBay consider ownership of an item to have transferred from seller to buyer?

This is part of the MBG:

Not covered

  • Buyer remorse or any reason other than not receiving an item or receiving an item that isn’t as described in the listing (see the seller’s return policy for return options).

  • Items damaged during local pick-up.

  • Items not delivered, damaged during collection, or damaged during shipment when the buyer arranges pick-up or shipping of the item (for instance, the buyer arranges freight).
