What shipping status should I use for virtual services?

I could have sworn I asked this question a couple years ago but I'm unable to figure out how to find my posting history here, so here it goes again.

I offer some consulting services online, and get paid via PayPal.  By the time the buyer pays me, I've already rendered the service and there is nothing to "send".  In this case, what 'order status' should I select when trying to add tracking information to each transaction?  The options are:

  • shipped
  • in process
  • hold
  • returned
  • order processed

None of these seem right for a virtual service.  Also, I am not sure what the difference is between "in process" and "order processed".  It seems like two slightly different ways of saying the same thing.

I tried using both of these, and I noticed that the 'tracking information not required' box got automatically checked.  So maybe this is the one I should use?  But it would be nice if I could be sure.  It would be nice if they had some helper text or explanation next to each of these options so that people could know what they mean.

I think there should be two boxes to denote what was sold - either (1) goods, or (2) services.  If services is checked, there should be no option to enter tracking information.

Why is tracking info not required for this order status? Why is tracking info not required for this order status?

What do you mean when you say "get paid via PayPal"? eBay/Ayden handles all payments these days and payouts are sent to your bank account, even when the buyer's payment source is PayPal. If you're receiving payments directly from your buyers into your PayPal account that means you're taking transactions offsite which is a huge no-no and will lead to eBay permanently banning you from selling.

I looked at your community profile, this post is the only post you’ve written since you joined in June of 2015.

PayPal is not used to receive payments anymore it’s been at least 2 yrs since Adyen has taken that spot.
How are you sending this virtual service? If you are delivering by eMail you can’t track that. To use tracking would need to ship a physical item.
I don’t see any sales in this ID. Where are you selling this service?
