I have a very patient buyer in Sarasota, Florida.
Hasn't even filed a INR yet but i have built a good rapport with him.
Purchase date: 4-14
Ship date: 4-15
Estimated delivery date: 4-21
I initiated a package trace on: 4-27
It says "case closed" on: 4-29
What does that mean?
The package still shows no movement.

Your seller definitely not received it now? That should be the only reason a case should be closed (2 days after it was opened seems laughable as well)
Go back after them quoting the case number if the buyer confirms not in his hands, this sounds ludicrous
Good Luck

This happens to me a lot as I use a lot of media mail and it’s garbage. It means they are just slow and don’t want to admit it. For me they close when there’s no scans because they don’t think i shipped it since it hasn’t been scanned. Be patient. It will eventually move. I just had the same thing happen with a dvd to Puerto Rico. 15 days. No scans and they close the case with the nerve to say once they receive it it’ll get a scan (!!!!).

Had several such events during last years 'Crunch' and earlier this year ..
Usually meant - "it's moving, don't worry about it" -
small compensation though when you can't help but worry with the speed Buyers will file an INR nowadays.
The biggest difference was that in December i would (3 out of 5 times) receive a phone call from the Destination PO. Always with an incredibly apologetic Postal employee reassuring me that the package was in fact moving towards its destination. The latest, however, a Priority package traveling from NY to OR that just stopped cold at the Airport (later found out item was going to a 3rd party shipper for a Buyer in Taiwan)
filed a Package Research Case on Monday - USPS Closed case on Tuesday without any explanation.
Guess the USPS was a little more concerned about customer relations when they had the Mega-Backlog and what must have been an incredibly high number of peeved customers expecting miracles for the Holiday...
Thankfully you sound as if you have a Buyer with some understanding ..
(you gotta love 'em - had one poor Guy in PA that patiently waited over 5 weeks for his item as it had apparently decided to Vacation in CA for a couple of weeks before heading to its new home)
and obviously You know what you're doing (Not a Ship and Forget eBayer)
so i'm sure all will work out well for You and your Buyer.

In my case, they told me that they lost the package... probably because the label fell off. Of course, inside the package is a receipt with my address, can't say I am impressed, I have three books held up, one in Memphis TN 3 weeks, two in Warrendale PA for almost a week. I would recommend using FedEx or UPS.

I have seen this type of thing before and I have to aggree with it
its called package research...............not rescue it and move to the front of the line
if a package is researched then the USPS knows where it is and what more can be done except to deliver it

I got a email from the USPS...
"We tracked your package. It looks like its in transit to the delivering office. Unfortunately we can not give you a time frame. All we cam suggest to keep on tracking your package. If you do not receive this package by 5/14. We suggest putting in a claim in that package was never received. "
What kind of English is that?

omg are you having issues with USPS as well. all my packages last week have been very late and now one is missing. i have refunded 2 of my customers so far and one finally got his package the other day. im so upset with them!

They looked for it and either they found it and the tracking still has not updated or they CANNOT FIND IT. It is one or the other. You must continue to have correspondence with the destination post office and keep checking with them if the tracking does not update. Once they close the research case they usually stop responding to you vis email or phone calls so it is up to you to continue to call them to check and see if it has gotten to that destination PO.

What does it mean.
1) there has been an updated scan since you opened the case. Case closed.
2) there has been no update scan since you opened the case. Case closed.
Action must be taken within 3 days when a case is opened. Action was taken.

Package was never flagged as "out for delivery" but was delivered today, Saturday 5-1-21.

ok guys so I got an update today. I have had 3 packages to which i sent back on April 17th. i have opened cases and filed missing packages claims and i finally got a good person who has been working at the post office for 40 yes 40 years. what she told me is that when trump and that new post master general he put into office took out some of the packaging/mail sorting machines, which processed 1000 pieces of mail/packages an hour on average, it backed the east coast up severely. she said first class she is seeing sometimes come up or be delivered at 6 weeks and priority mail almost a month. she said they are doing it allllll by hand so they so backed up and overworked that until they get those machines back on or working that it will be like this for awhile. she said that its a lot of bureaucracy to get this man out of his position and right now no telling when this will happen. so if you mailing to the east coast expect some mad customers for very long weights sometimes.
