As a trustworthy seller, I'm in the business for so many years. Recently I have encountered a big lost for the terrible scam that buyer who use PayPal get refund by sending back a fake jewelry which make me lose about $5000. I just wanted to warn other sellers about this, because no one can protect you from this.
The buyer's id: hk.2749
Do you know that? Sellers aren't able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers. It is ridiculous that the buyer doing fraud has 90 positive feedback.
I received an order and shipped the Graff butterfly pave diamond necklace with blue sapphire with original box and certificate, and took picture together with the customer shipping label just leave as record (3/10). Customer receive the goods 3 days after I shipped out to Macau(3/13). Then a week after customer claim "Goods received and photos, is not the same item " through paypal (3/25). Attention, without any message on ebay or contact us, the buyer open case directly through paypal want to get the money back. First, I checked our record include shipping & packing records, shows nothing wrong and provide them the proof and asked the customer why they said item it is not correct, but they didn't say anything. 4/10 we received a package shipping from Hangzhou, it is a butterfly shape necklace. Fake one, no value. I know I was encountered a fraud. I tried to provide as much as information I can and talked to PayPal claiming this is an internet crime, and we even file the IC3 internet crime complaint investigation letter. Still 4/25 case closed and decided in buyer's favor, only because customer said the item is not as described and they return a fake stuff to make this look consistency. Paypal refund the customer who return us the fake necklace. Even I start the appealing process, they still close.
Apparently these scammer know how to play game. Unfortunately, there is no way to avoid this scam. Like the other seller sharing the similar experience , "If it happens to you, it will happen, and you have no way to fight back at it."
Please share this or comment. Ebay and Paypal needs to know this system in unacceptable.
Thanks everyone

I am SO SORRY that this has happened to you! I cannot imagine losing 5K...
...which is one of the reason that I will NEVER sell anything of decent value online - ever! It is just so easy for some unscrupulous "buyer" to make a false claim.
I hope that you can find some justice with some sort of authority bureau...😓

the same thing happened to me.I sold a beat looking vintage rolex rivet band to Italy, the buyer claimed it was fake, this went thru paypal and he shipped me back a fake rivet band, the money was returned.I was told I could file an appeal and send in a police report.I took the fake band and package to the police and filed a report, came back in 7 days for my copy and sent/emailed it to paypal. I was made whole by paypal,it was only 250 or so.

You can send your buyer a message pointing out they somehow sent the wrong item back. This gives them an opportunity to return the genuine one. If they don't step up and return it:
Tell them that using the mail for theft is a FELONY, you will be filing a mail fraud report and the buyer should expect a visit from the Federal postal inspectors. Also tell them you're filing a theft report with their local police department. (do this)
USPS is actively pursuing as many fraud reports as possible.
Hope the IC3 report does something for you. I've wondered how that actually works.
Good luck. I sure hope you get some resolution to this.

It is tabulated into the annual Internet Crime Report, available for sale.
