WHAT IS GOING ON WITH USPS DELIVERY OF PACKAGES ?

I am the eBay seller for many years and never experienced  such delays and wrong delivery in shipping of my items by USPS. eBay does not care that we are not shipping companies, have no any power over shipping time and quality of delivery to buyers. We are still responsible for delivery. What sellers can do about it, how  I can protect myself for a loss of not delivered ,damaged first class packages? Shipping cost is very important part of sell and adding additional costs may scare potential buyers. What to do?

At this time an option is to Not use USPS. Other sellers have stopped selling for now. You have to do what's best for your business, mental health, and cost.

I kind of take it on a package by package, item by item basis. I still mostly use USPS tho.

You can protect yourself from damaged packages by packing properly. If you can't kick your package down a flight of stairs and drop a 50 lb box on top of it without worrying that whatever is inside it is going to be damaged, it isn't packed well enough.

If USPS is the only carrier that fits into your business model, it might be a tough road for awhile if your shipment hits one of the USPS distribution centers that is still backed up.

Here is what I share with folks in that same boat with me.

USPS = throw caution to the wind, ship and hope for the best.

UPS = mitigates risk

Close store until USPS catches up = eliminates all risk

OK, glad you asked as I have been beating the table on this for weeks. Yes, you have no control over shipping but YOU DO have control over shaping the buyer's perceptions and their experience when buying from you.  WAY too many sellers just "ship it and forget it" and then throw their hands up with the "no control" comment.  I thing these approaches miss an opportunity to provide good customer service and avoid INR cases.

There have been many sellers with the same issue during the holiday season.  USPS got hit with HISTORICALLY HIGH levels of packages, something they could never be prepared for.  Plus they had whole sorting centers closed because of COVID sickness or quarantines.

So the "best" post I have seen on how a seller protected them self from late delivery claims was by bluegrasscomics.  Take a look at this and see if there is something in there you could adopt to help yourself.
