Using cohesive corrugated wrap for the inner box to ship fragile dishes

Has anyone used cohesive corrugated wrap to ship fragile items - specifically, fragile dishes?

I like to use the double box method to ship fragile items, including fragile dishes, and I never had anything break with this method.  However, it takes me a ridiculously long time to find a box the right size for my item, or modify a box to fit the item using a box resizer so I am determined to find another method.

I have used cohesive corrugated wrap in the past for books, so I'm thinking that might work well for the inner box to ship the dishes.  My thought is to first wrap the items with several layers of bubble wrap, then use cohesive corrugated wrap to make the inner box for more cushion.   I'll make sure the cohesive wrap has a "tail" that the customer can cut off to safely remove the item. Then, get a box that allows 2 inches of space on the bottom, top and sides for the outer box.  Put a layer of 2 inches of packing peanuts on the bottom, then put the bubble-wrapped-cohesive-corrugated-wrap item in the center of the box, fill the box with packing peanuts tightly on all sides and on top, making sure the item cannot shift around.

I think this should make the item arrive safely without breakage.    I wrapped one dish in the corrugated wrap and then did a test run to unwrap the item (like my customer would) to see if I could remove the wrap easily and without breaking the item, and that proved successful.

I'm a little concerned about what the customer's impression of wrapping dishes in corrugated cardboard, though.  If it were me, I would think it was a good way to wrap dishes and would be glad that the seller took the extra effort to make sure the item was safe from breakage.  But I am a utilitarian person, not an aesthetic one, so I can't entirely trust my opinion on that matter.

So, what do you guys think?  Do you think this is a good way to ship dishes?  Do you think customers will be put off with their dishes being shipped this way?  If this isn't a good method, do you have a suggestion on how to use the double-box method that doesn't take a lot of time?

Thanks in advance,

Donna Jo

I'd double box and use bubble wrap, and then wrap the wrapped items in one large size bubble wrap.
