Got my first negative today! Do I get a badge for that? Here's the question....I sold an item that didn't come up to the buyers expectation. He didn't read the ad properly, there was certainly no subterfuge on my part. I could give a hoot about the money, it's the principle. He even puts in his complaint that the item is not Near Mint as advertised even though I didn't advertise it as such. Scammer? Just refund and move on? Thanks in advance guys. By the way the item is only worth $25 but .......

Welcome to the new 'norm' in e-bay selling!

You have NM in the title and in the grading section of your listing. Doesn't NM mean Near Mint? I can see where the buyer got confused, but I think he should have worked with you on the return instead of negging you. But, 1 neg won't hurt you, you have plenty of other sales. I had someone neg me because even though I packed an item well, and also gave a full refund, but they still gave me a neg. It comes of in a year. Don't worry about it.

You listed it as NM - Near Mint ...
Regardless, the Money Back Guarantee is based on a buyer's opinion. So, if the buyer's opinion is that it is supposed to be Near Mint, and it isn't, then this is enough to activate the MBG.
The Negative FB seems a bit excessive, unless you and the buyer have been arguing back and forth. Bottom line, your choices are to refund without requiring a return ... or require the return, and then refund once it is returned. It is up to you.

Welcome to ebay. They are FOOLISHLY following the model of Amazon (which I stoopped using to sell over 5 years ago) that allows buyers to RETURN FOR ANY REASON. I'm not Amazon or Costco, I provide details and photos and answer questions immediately. Yet, people are impulsive these days and everyone is a victim so they can get whatever they want. Basically, you're hosed. You take a risk selling on these platforms because anything less than 100% satisfaction we'll get their money back, ALWAYS.

Greetings,
Well, I recommend you don't do what I did as a beginner. I'd let these issues build up. Blame ebay, the world, etc. Then my productivity dropped off...then I played the victim, quit selling for awhile. Bottom line I was just punished myself by my over reaction. It cost me money.
I am not suggesting you are doing this but I hope you do not fall into the trap I inflicted upon myself.
Long story short, If I can change it I will, otherwise I just let it go anymore.
Good luck, move on and make some sales...this will be a distant memory soon.

I'm by no means an expert. Frankly, the comic books that I enjoyed as a kid would probably not be worth much after being read & re-read and passed around between my friends and I. However, I would caution the use of subjective terms such as "Near Mint" in descriptions as eBay will always take a buyer's opinion of the items condition over the sellers.
While I'm not really familiar with the grading system used for comic books and graphic novels, it would appear that unless the buyer and the seller ascribe to precisely the same method of evaluation it is always going to come down to a matter of opinion. Thus, I would advise merely accepting SNAD returns as a part of the nature of the beast and avoid fighting a losing battle and receiving a defect for one's trouble.
Admittedly, my own collection of such items is more a collection of original artwork and first editions and variants from artist friends that do that type of work. Unfortunately, I've never considered any type of grading system for them.
