Unwarrented Return, Need help guys!

Got my first negative today!  Do I get a badge for that?  Here's the question....I sold an item that didn't come up to the buyers expectation.  He didn't read the ad properly, there was certainly no subterfuge on my part. I could give a hoot about the money, it's the principle.  He even puts in his complaint that the item is not Near Mint as advertised even though I didn't advertise it as such.  Scammer?  Just refund and move on? Thanks in advance guys.  By the way the item is only worth $25 but .......

You have NM in the title and in the grading section of your listing. Doesn't NM mean Near Mint? I can see where the buyer got confused, but I think he should have worked with you on the return instead of negging you. But, 1 neg won't hurt you, you have plenty of other sales. I had someone neg me because even though I packed an item well, and also gave a full refund, but they still gave me a neg. It comes of in a year. Don't worry about it.

You listed it as NM - Near Mint ...

Regardless, the Money Back Guarantee is based on a buyer's opinion.  So, if the buyer's opinion is that it is supposed to be Near Mint, and it isn't, then this is enough to activate the MBG.

The Negative FB seems a bit excessive, unless you and the buyer have been arguing back and forth.  Bottom line, your choices are to refund without requiring a return ... or require the return, and then refund once it is returned.  It is up to you.

When it comes to comics there is a big difference between NM- like my ad and NM. Like getting an A or B in school. So no NM- does not mean NM

Just rechecked my ad and it still says NM- not NM. I will probably just refund and wash my hands of it. Later my colleagues! Thanks for the input.

Welcome to "seller beware". Last week I had a seller leave a negative feedback because he said item was not delivered even though USPS tracking showed delivery 3 weeks earlier . Why do these buyers think that the sellers are delivery people and they can try to ruin a seller's reputation by leaving negative feedback for something 100% out of the sellers control??? Ebay removed the negative feedback after I called them and explained. Buyers can return an item for ANY reason - even if it is not true. And if you offer "free returns" you will pay return shipping. Clothing is a risky sale - wrong shade, too big/little, too heavy, too itchy, too worn, etc. I would give your buyer the refund and then immediately "block" him/her. That's why I started leaving buyer feedback AFTER the buyer leaves their feedback. Just because the buyer pays the bill on time does not mean that they will be giving you a positive feedback. Don't get too discouraged. we have all been here!

Thanks, I just refunded and let him keep the item. Just going to block now!

Welcome to ebay.  They are FOOLISHLY following the model of Amazon (which I stoopped using to sell over 5 years ago) that allows buyers to RETURN FOR ANY REASON.  I'm not Amazon or Costco, I provide details and photos and answer questions immediately.  Yet, people are impulsive these days and everyone is a victim so they can get whatever they want.  Basically, you're hosed.  You take a risk selling on these platforms because anything less than 100% satisfaction we'll get their money back, ALWAYS.

I'm discouraged, I don't deal with scumbags in real life, but I'm finding many buyers as scumbags, opening cases to return when no returns allowed, complaining about item not delivered, when tracking shows, item not as described when clearly photographed and described. Why put up with it? Ebay is shooting themselves in the foot.

Greetings,

Well, I recommend you don't do what I did as a beginner. I'd let these issues build up. Blame ebay, the world, etc. Then my productivity dropped off...then I played the victim,  quit selling for awhile. Bottom line I was just punished myself by my over reaction. It cost me money.

I am not suggesting you are doing this but I hope you do not fall into the trap I inflicted upon myself.

Long story short, If I can change it I will, otherwise I just let it go anymore.

Good luck, move on and make some sales...this will be a distant memory soon.

Thanks. I am far from a beginner, just tired of being used. When I had a brick and mortar store I knew what was going on. eBay took my post down because I called someone out , did not use names or anything. I don't get it, aren't the sellers the driving force behind this ?

I'm by no means an expert.  Frankly, the comic books that I enjoyed as a kid would probably not be worth much after being read & re-read and passed around between my friends and I.  However, I would caution the use of subjective terms such as "Near Mint" in descriptions as eBay will always take a buyer's opinion of the items condition over the sellers.

While I'm not really familiar with the grading system used for comic books and graphic novels, it would appear that unless the buyer and the seller ascribe to precisely the same method of evaluation it is always going to come down to a matter of opinion.  Thus, I would advise merely accepting SNAD returns as a part of the nature of the beast and avoid fighting a losing battle and receiving a defect for one's trouble.

Admittedly, my own collection of such items is more a collection of original artwork and first editions and variants from artist friends that do that type of work.  Unfortunately, I've never considered any type of grading system for them.

Thanks for the input. People don't buy ungraded comics and looking at my feedback you can see that I am well respected in that regard. I have refunded, never expect to get the book back but will certainly never let that weasel in the henhouse again!
