USPS won’t let me pick up package

I missed a package 📦 2 days ago but nobody left a peach slip. The day after I missed the package I went to the post office and tried to claim it by showing the lady behind the counter my phone and the item number but she told me that it wasn’t probably delivered but it says “Attempted delivery”;The woman didn’t listen and said it’s still on the truck without even checking the numbers and I told her it was attempted and she said since there were no paper nothing she can do. I don’t want them to send my stuff back to the seller. So I rescheduled a delivery and still nothing has showed up and I need a resolution.

explaining anything to a postal worker is like making ice cream out of a walrus. It can be done but, it's not easy.

Most post offices have limited storage space.  The clerks want to get the parcels out of that little room.

She was speaking from experience, I'd bet.

since there were no paper nothing she can do.

While paper can blow away or be discarded accidentally, it is probably true that the carrier had not yet returned the parcel to the station.

You may have been only an hour earlier than the carrier's return. Did you allow a full 24 hours before attempting to pick up?

I believe that stations hold on to parcels for up to five business days.

Since today is Saturday, and the PO is not open (?) if your parcel is not delivered on Monday, you should see the Delivery Notice by then.

You will need ID that has both a picture and your address to pick up the parcel and you will be asked to sign for it.

Buying online is mail order. It's either fast or cheap. Sometimes it's neither.

I am a recently retired Postmaster of 32 years. Call or go to your local PO and ask to speak to the Postmaster, Manager or Delivery Supervisor. It just depends on how large of a Post Office you have.  Take names and note times & dates. Explain what happened and make sure you take along identification showing your name and address which will match on the parcel you are attempting to pick up. You do NOT need the attempted delivery slip(peach). They will not release any mail or package without proper identification matching the mail item. Give them the tracking number also which will help. There are a few clerks with attitudes out there just like in any business.  This virus thing shortens nerves and patience also but no excuss for not allowing you your property. If you still get flack, ask for their supervisor's name and contact information including their District and Area Offices. Also, ask for the Consumer Affairs contact information at the District and Area office.  Again, only in the case you may still have difficulty getting them to release your package. Full names, titles, phone numbers of all refusing you service. Make clear to everyone why you are taking names - as a record of your problem. Then go up the food chain. No excuse for poor service and you should not tolerate it.  You are required to provide proof of who you are though which is understandable. Good Luck!

...............general reply...................

you were given bad service, plain and simple. If you went to the PO 2 days later there is no reason for a package to be on the truck still, undelivered packages are brought back to the PO the same day/evening.The only time that delivery is attempted again is for express mail,or  so I have been told.

I have seen many a clerk ask for a delivery supervisor to come up to the counter and explain things to a customer,it keeps the line moving and makes the customer think they are speaking to someone important. All of the clerks at my PO know exactly where to look if you dont have the slip

Unfortunately you will find that employees within organizations, sometimes make up their own policies that contradict that of their employer, to avoid inconvenience & expenditure of effort .

...by tomorrow if you still didn't receive your package then on Tuesday, you can go to your PO and don't bother discuss the problem with the clerks but politely insist them that you have to see a supervisor about missing your package...

...most "Notice-Left" articles (packages, Certified Mail, Postage Due) hold up to 10 days...Express Mail is up to 15 days in Riverside PO...hope your PO has a same policy...

...btw, did your package requested a Signature upon delivery...?

I always call my locale post office and give them the tracking number to see what is up with it. And they will check with the carrier or other means. I have Informed Delivery, and it is not always right, the carrier may have it in the truck somewhere.  But they always get the answer for me.

Oldwestgold and 1tuna are right. I'm a mail carrier (20  years), you do not need the 3849 notice. And if the  package was attempted the day before and it was not an Express package it should be at the Post Office. You need to talk to the Postmaster or supervisor. EVERYTHING comes out of the trucks at the end of the route. I mean everything, no mail, no personal items of the carriers, nothing is to be left overnight in the vehicles so the clerk should have had the package in the 'available for pick-up' area.
