I shipped a perfume via USPS parcel select on 8/21 - as of today, 9/12 it has yet to be delivered.
It keeps getting to the Detroit Distribution Center but they send it back in my direction (and then my local PO catches it / scans it MISSENT and back to Detroit it goes.)
It has reached Detroit Dist Center 3X and each time they try to route it back to me. It is going to Ypsilanti, MI
I opened a package research case, but that case closed right after it tracked. There is no problem w/ the address and the other destinations along the way have no problem sending this package in the right direction... problem occurs once it hits Detroit.
This package is stuck in a loop and I don't know what to do! THANKFULLY I have an understanding buyer, but that patience will probably run out soon as she has waited almost 3 weeks and is still waiting!)
I opened another case today. Is there anything else I can do? I am sure the case will close again once it tracks... I cannot fathom what is happening in Detroit... I believe Ypsilanti is less than 30 minutes away and they keep trying to send it back to me.

I had something similar happen to me in July, I was the seller. Eventually I had to refund the buyer as he grew angry. The package did end up getting delivered to the buyer, a full eight weeks late. Nothing can be done in these situations except to wait it out. Sometimes packages get lost in the system. It happens. Try your best to please your buyer, you may end up refunding after all. Best of luck to you....

I remembered when a buyer complained about my item smelling of perfume when he got it in the mail. Apparently, someone mailed a bottle and it broke or something on my item while in transit before delivered.
I believe we cannot mail liquids by USPS. Which includes wine and perfume. It's possible something happened while in transit.

I had this problem last month, I Told my local postal supervisor about it and I filed a Help Request Form on USPS website after that it go delivered

YOu can mail it but it must be first class mail . Common sense is that the seller will pack the liquid item in a plastic bag and wrap it well with bubblewrap.

It's my understanding that perfume must go by ground. It can't go by air and since first class mail uses air, you aren't supposed to ship by that method.

Just as future info......If your shipping label is wrapped around the box leaving the Ship To and Ship From address on different panels that is what is causing this issue. It is just getting sorted wrong over and over because they are looking at the wrong panel. They will eventually get it right (it took me a long time to figure this out....so just wanted to pass along). As long as the package is still showing scans ebay will NOT close the claim.

Oooohhh.... that is most likely what is happening to my package - It is indeed wrapped around the box, as the box is too narrow for the full label. Thank you foxboxfashions!! Seems ridiculous though... every other post office sorts / scans it correctly until it gets to Detroit. Maddening to say the least.
That is good to know that ebay will not close the claim if it shows scans (thank goodness!! as this package is still in limbo as I type this - looks like it may be in Atlanta. ) So far the buyer hasn't opened one... but I am sure that is coming very soon. I just need to respond with tracking, right?
Thanks for the replies everyone. I appreciate it.

Perfume is flammable and goes ORM-D Surface Mail Only. First Class is Air Transportation. HOWEVER, I do see a lot of Perfume being sent First Class Standard Shipping, which means they are lying about what's in the package to take advantage of the cheaper faster shipping method.
