I will preface this post with, we have regular issues with the laziness of out USPS carrier. With that being said, we recently had 7 separate transactions where we printed labels and shipped items on time. Packages were picked up my our USPS carrier, however, they were not immediately scanned into the USPS system. My guess is they then sate at a USPS facility for a day, maybe two, before finally being scanned into the USPS system upon movement to another location. Ebay is now penalizing us for this saying it is our responsibility to have the carrier scan the package on time. As a result, we will lose our "Top Rated Seller" status next review period. Has anyone dealt with this? Any advice on how to approach Ebay about it? They are unwilling to remove the negative marks against us due to these shipping delays.

Read the announcements and lots of posts. This is almost routine to not get an acceptance scan. Packages sit for much longer than few days. Usually a week or more. All seem to have delayed delivery. Ebay says they are covering this or that but its going to take sometime to work out

i have had 15 packages either delayed , lost, or never updated the scan, and I personally take all my packages to the post office. some of these ssame packages have been sitting dormat in the main Baltimore Facility since December 4th, and here it is Decemeber 22, and no update. this is ridiclious and I have customers sending me messages wanting refunds, I don't understand how ebay can hold us responsible for something that is completely out of our control. Some of my packages are insured but USPS wont let you file for a insurance claim until i fill out a missing package search and then we have to wait. So what ebay is asking us small businesses that are already hurting to dish out more money for refunds on items we are already out of. I sell children's books so offer free media mail shipping on a couple dollar books and now you want me to pay it back and take a loss. Its a delay, they took the risk shopping late, I never gave them the date that they would receive the packge in the auction ebay did not me.

As much as I dislike the unfairness eBay exhibits on a consistent basis across the board... this isn't their problem. The eBay requirements are there. You have to meet them.

The problem is your USPS postal worker/carrier. All your problems are BECAUSE OF THE CARRIER and their negligence. Fix that.

The solution is to REPORT the carrier servicing your address. Contact the station the carrier works out of, and speak to the Postmaster of that station. Make a report by phone, in person, or file a complaint online. Their supervisor needs to know about the negligence of the carrier in not giving your packages acceptance scans upon pick up. The carrier is supposed to being doing that with a portable hand-held scanner that all carriers have. (They have them to scan "delivered" packages, so they have them!)

Make sure you are adamant and serious! This is a chronic problem with USPS postal carriers. They just don't get it. Make it clear that you are being held responsible for their actions, and you need online proof of acceptance into the USPS system when the item is picked up at your location.

One way to CYA a little is to "schedule a pickup". It doesn't have the tracking number but at least you have proof your package was picked up and when. That info calmed down several buyers of mine. also, FYI, I talked to my carrier, my sub carrier, the local and main post office and the 1-800 number and all informed me they no longer required to scan packages when they are picked up, that they will be scanned in when they arrive at the terminal {which doesn't happen either! } My carrier told me to do the schedule pickup thing every time I ship an ebay item.....they do record that in immediately.

I had this defect removed from my account today...
Defect: Tracking indicates late delivery
In this case it was shipped on time but USPS did not scan it when they picked it up.

Here is what I did...

Late shipment defect removal:

For a late delvery of an item that did not receive an initial USPS scan when it was picked up...
I used "Seller Help Tool" located at: https://www.ebay.com/sellerhelp
I clicked the "Request to remove defects" option and here's what I entered in the required fields:

Removal request reason:
Disruption outside my control (examples: illness or hospitalization, fire or flood, etc.)

Additional info:
USPS picked the package up on Tuesday december 8th 2020 in [MY CITY, STATE, ZIP CODE.] (The next day after sale.) USPS neglected to actually scan until it went through a regional facility in Texas several days later.
This is clearly indicated by the tracking in Texas being the first scan shown online: (Dec 12, 2020 10:01pm PROCESSED THROUGH USPS FACILITY NORTH HOUSTON, TX 77315)
USPS not scanning when picking up is outside of my control. This is happening to many sellers and is being discussed everywhere online including many posts on Ebay Community Forum. Ebay management should be very well aware of this USPS issue!

You need to print out a SCAN sheet. This is one piece of paper with a list of all your packages with one bar code that even a lazy carrier can scan. Upon this one scan, all you packages are entered as "received" and you are covered w/ eBay. Your buyer can see that you shipped the package.

I use scan sheets some post office locations are ignoring the scan forms. Both in person and with pick up. My work around is finally getting in contact with my post master and emailing her my scan forms.
