USPS item lost, but buyer open claim with usps

I ship out an order with eBay shipping label Dec 9. But there is no update since Dec 13. Buyer open Item not receive case. I reached out to eBay customer service and they said the case will most likely close on buyer’s favor. They advised me to reach out to USPS to file a claim. Since I have eBay label, I would be cover. I don’t have the receipt and USPS employee told me to open claim online. But online shows a claim has already file a claim. I’m assuming the buyer did. In this case, what should I do? Thanks

I don't know why this hasn't had any helpful responses. I am not an expert. But check and see when Ebay promised it would arrive. Until the last date of their estimate has passed, the buyer can't file a claim, I believe. (I assume that date has already passed, though.)

Do you know if the claim filed at the USPS is for a lost package? If not, I'd try to file that. Often when it's filed the package starts tracking again. One time I had a package get lost in the postal service, as a buyer, and I filed a lost package with the USPS. I thought my seller was also able to do so. But maybe things have changed since then. That was several years ago.

I think I would politely ask the buyer if they filed a claim with the USPS, and if so would they update me on its status? Perhaps they will respond. The type of claim they filed might give you an idea of what your next steps would be.

I hope someone else has better suggestions for you!

Why would buyer file claim with USPS? Seller responsible for delivery to buyer..

You would have to ask them (the buyer)! It sounds like they didn't wait for the seller to file. When a packaged gets lost in the mail, either the recipient or the sender can ask USPS to trace it and hopefully find it. IF that's the kind of claim the buyer filed. If they filed for compensation of the value of the item, then I suspect that they're trying to double-dip on reimbursement -- collect from postal service plus collect from seller... But we don't know what they filed a claim for.
