USPS is now denying claims unless the buyer takes the item and packing to the post office. There needs to be an option for damaged in shipment as buyers are filing to return the item. Buyers are not going to be happy about this.

I DUNNO WHAT YOU ARE SMOKING BUT I GUESS YOU DIDN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT WAS SAID....WHAT NOBODY'S PERFECT SAID IS THAT IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW WELL YOU PACK, THAT THE BUYER ONLY HAS TO OPEN A FRIVOLOUS CLAIM LIKE 'IS DEFECTIVE" AND THAT'S IT. NOTHING ELSE IS REQUIRED BECAUSE EBAY DON'T GIVE ONE RAT ASS **bleep** ABOUT NOTHING ELSE. LOOK AT THE PICS OF AN ITEM I SOLD AND HOW IT WAS RETURNED TO ME.

That's how it's always been. USPS can ask that the damaged item be presented for inspection of the mailing box/wrapper and all protective contents... if there was any. Then they determine if it's been packed well enough. If not, there is no claim paid. So, in the "old days" the buyer would trek off to the P.O. with all the above and let the local Post Master determine if the insured package was packed well enough. If your packing passed, you got your claim paid.
Now, with all the Buyer Protection Programs in place, a buyer has NO incentive to do anything to help a seller recoup any loss. All the they have to do is file that NAD case and it's over. The seller loses. End of story.
It's best to just sell inexpensive items. If I have anything valuable, heavy, extra large, extra fragile... I sell it elsewhere. Usually through local pick up venues, neighborhood ads, direct to interested parties via trade magazines, clubs, etc. It's a little more work to find your buyers through those means, but when you do, it's well worth it. Face to face and no hassles.
Ebay loves newbie sellers coming in with their diamond rings, expensive handbags, cell phones and other electronics. Ebay wins no matter what happens, and the scammers win... and the inexperienced sellers come here owing huge fees, and wondering if we can tell them what they did wrong.

If you are Top Rated seller you can deduct up to 50% of the purchase price for damage.
