EBAY NEEDS TO BECOME MORE LIKE AMAZON WHEN IT COMES TO DELVERY. USPS HAS A HISTORY OF THEFT FROM WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION. THIS TIME OF YEAR WILL SEE THIS TRIBLE BECAUSE OF TEMPORARY STAFF AT THE POST OFFICE.
WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES TO USPS DELIVERY?

That is a bold statement. Do you have proof of that accusation? Otherwise, legally, it is Libel.

Simply untrue.
First off, eBay can't do what Amazon does. Though Amazon does have individual sellers the majority of Amazon packages are fulfilled by Amazon warehouses. Ebay is a community of individuals it has a totally different structure than Amazon.
Beside that, you do know that Amazon hands off their packages to USPS for last mile delivery in most places anyway.
Sure there is theft in EVERY organization but at USPS this is minimal. Your 'temperary staff' usually works in the sorting centers which have scores of video cameras. Companies like FedEx and UPS put a temporary 'runner' on trucks so the delivery crew can cover more area. Still this is not the cause of theft.
Thefts occur mainly due to what we call Porch Pirates, people that cruise around following delivery vehicles.
How to combat this.
1. Have a neighbor that will be home collect packages
2. Put in a 'Hold for pickup" order.
3. Provide a container that will hide your packages from view.

Offer local pick up only!
Unfortunately theft exists with any carrier (mail deliver, motor freight), any retail store, home invasion, etc. Some people just want stuff for "free" unless they get busted. Read an article about theft at Wal-Mart and they incur a loss due to theft of $3 billion a year world wide - approx. 60% is attribute to store employees. hmmm!

Helps to ship in just a plain brown box. a box that is labeled ebay, amazon or a product plastered over it makes it more tempting for a person to snatch it seeing it might be worth something but a thief will think twice about stealing a plain brown box that could have just dirt in or something else not worth risking to get caught for in it.

While product boxes aren't a good idea if it's a high end product, there is no proof that eBay or Amazon boxes are more prone to theft than others.
Thieves steal. They don't sift through and leave the plain brown ones behind. They follow the carrier trucks. They porch scan from a distance. Then they grab and dash
All of the carriers hire seasonal temporary employees and all run the risk of theft. It's not just the carrier, but the porch pirates. There are news reports all over that even show the porch pirates following UPS/FedEx delivery trucks and picking up the package within moments.

I am not a shipper I am a buyer. My suggestion is that sellers offer a cost related alternative to USPS, names, FedEx, etc. to buyers instead of the "free" option. I have found that nothing is free in life, so to offer this option via a sole system that's tainted makes walking into a store to purchase a lot more desireable.

"Free Shipping" is not free.
When you see "Free Shipping" on a listing, it just means that the seller has included the cost of postage into the item price.
There is no such thing as a "free option". The seller still pays the carrier whether shipping is charged separately or rolled up into the price.
$15 + Free Shipping is the same thing as $5 + $10 Shipping or $10 + $5 shipping

That's not rocket science. My quesition is where the option to upgrade the delivery to another carrier through additional cost is possible?

It is only libel if an individual is named as a thief. I have had packages stolen. The news just reflected an article where items where being stolen from within...that's why I don't post....always a legalist wannabee in the bunch.

The sellers who are already paying for postage should add the option of upgrading to another carrier other than USPS to their items...if that is farfetched for a seller..so be it.

contact the seller and ask if they can. Many home sellers may not have practical access to carriers other than the ones in listing
