USPS Priority go up??

I have been shipping golf clubs for years and normally use usps priority. Cost for years to the east coast is usually from 10-$12.00. Tonight I was calculating from Idaho to Ga 1 lb 10 oz  38" x 6 x 5 = 26.28??? Tried several times is there a glitch in the system or ?

Re: USPS Priority go up??

As announced October 2021, this was part of the January 2022 price changes but given a delayed application date of April 3, 2022.

There is a new “nonstandard fee” for packages that must be sorted manually by the USPS when the dimensions of the package exceed sortation requirements.

Packages with length over 22 inches will incur a $4.00 surcharge
Packages with length over 30 inches will incur $15.00 surcharge
Packages over 2 cubic feet will incur a $15.00 surcharge.

There is a $1.50 "noncompliance fee" for packages that are greater than one cubic foot or have a box length greater than 22 inches if the customer did not provide dimensions or provided inaccurate dimensions inside the online postage provider.

Yes, USPS will stack these surcharges where applicable. (Ex: over 22" and over 2 cubic feet and seller put wrong dimensions in the online label form - surcharge would be $4.00 + $15.00 + $1.50 for a total of $20.50)

Yes, these surcharges apply to the Priority branded triangular tube boxes.

No, the surcharge does not apply to the recently discontinued Large Flat Rate Board Game Box if you have any left in stock.

No, the surcharge does not apply to Media Mail.

Re: USPS Priority go up??

If you use a box that measures 27x27x2 you can put the golf club diagonally.  In which case you are over 22 inches (a $4.00 upcharge) but UNDER the 30 inch $15.00 upcharge. You need to learn to be creative.  With parcel select that gets you down to about $15.00.

And 27x27x2 you are still under 1 cubic foot.

I admit I don't play golf but it strikes me that most clubs laid flat are less than 2" thick.

Re: USPS Priority go up??

@ctringer78   Your package is over 30" so there is USPS surcharge that started April 3.  @wastingtime101 's post has additional information regarding the new fees.

USPS may also be raising their rates later this year ... or more accurately, this summer.  But that may be due to the wonderfully high gas prices we are all privileged to pay ...

Re: USPS Priority go up??

The USPS announced price changes last fall for those longer sized boxes to begin increasing in the Spring of 2022. Ebay has also sent out a few announcements about those price changes.

Packages with length over 22 inches will incur a $4.00 surcharge
Packages with length over 30 inches will incur $15.00 surcharge
Packages over 2 cubic feet will incur a $15.00 surcharge.

You can try UPS or simply adjust your USPS shipping prices in your listings. Please keep in mind that all other sellers will have to adjust their pricing as well. Plus, it will only be a matter of time before UPS & FedEx also increase their prices for such long boxes.

Good luck!

The surcharges also apply to Parcel Select Ground and Retail Ground.

Had the same idea but it doesn't work for canes/walking sticks.

Re: USPS Priority go up??

I went today to ship a golf club. The USPS said that anything over 30" in length they are adding a $15 sur-charge. What was suppose to be $12 turned into $27. ugh.
