I am very torn about whether I should buy USPS insurance for a package. The value I sold it for is $1150 its a coin. Now about insurance, I am well aware no insurance company customer friendly and USPS will use any thing to deny a claim. I am sending my package priorty, but insurance will cost $20 which is a lot in a time of uncertainty and to a college student. I personally think its $20 down the garbage because I have rarley have had expierence with lost packages, the few I have had I have been able to recover after hours on the phone, but I currently only have college, so I have time. I am also sending it prioty which is a high grade shipping and I rarley ever ship priorty. Does anybody have any advice.

This is like gambling and depends on how much of a risk taker you are. Good decision on sending priority mail that gets you some insurance, eBay already has a requirement for signature receipt since the item is over $750 dollars. Personally if it was me give the current postal issues, scamming and theft taking place I for one would spend the $20 which I can afford to loose to cover the 1.1K which I could not afford to loose.

Please read USPS' Insurance policies. Some types of coins are not covered. Same with Shipcover.

Fedex or UPS express will cost more but would be safer. Then there is the risk of scammers. A not as described case could be filed and anything sent back. Never sell an item you can't afford to lose. I once sold a violin for a bit over that. No problems. Only UPS would insure if for the full amount. It was over 230 years old. I never would take such a chance now.

Also be aware that since the sale amount is over $1000, your payment will be held for 21 days.

I would have to strongly agree with you on today's environment. The scamming as become so rampant and condoned by eBay these days I would never list a coin worth that much on eBay these days. The MBG and the ease at which buyers can file INAD cases, get their refunds and send back empty boxes or a box full of rocks is just to easy to pull off especially for overseas buyers where there is virtually 0 chance of even legal recourse.

if it were my coin I would ship 1st class in a box with a signature insured for 300,priority shipping is a waste of money for coins I think.as long as you are shipping in the USA there is low risk of anything happening

USPS First Class Registered Mail is how I would send it. Everyone that touches it has to sign for it. Make sure it's wrapped well and in a padded envelope so the coin isn't pushed out of the envelope by the machinery.
